Alternatives in the "Post-IAA" age... Will there be an AU-v4 that will fill the gap?

Switching between IAA linked Apps works, but I don't think it's fun.

I'm currently playing around with the "mini-sampler" in Cubasis, trying to make my own Drum Kits by recording directly from a sound source App into the mini-sampler via IAA.

I hit record on the mini-sampler, then I double press the home button, go to the App, press a key to make a sound, go back to Cubasis, stop the recording and edit the result.

I can use AU-v3 sampler apps in AUM and save the sampled sounds as files.

But I think it would make much more sense if Apps that support Audio Units would just allow Audio Units to talk to each other, as well as the App that is hosting them.

I hope such a capability will be available in some future iteration of AU on iPadOS.

Regarding Drum Machine Apps....

I like the "grid" method for programing rhythms. Each row has a different sound, and programing is as easy as touching the grid where you want the sound to happen on the timeline.

Why is there no Drum Machine (that I'm aware of) that lets you load an Audio Unit sound source on a grid row in place of a sampled drum sound?

Why is there no Drum Machine (that I'm aware of) that lets you load an Audio Unit into a sampler within the drum App, so you can make samples that you can use instantly?

And another thing....

An AU-v3 can't host another AU-v3.
But can a standalone App that hosts an AU-v3 at least have a "player" version of itself that can be loaded as an AU-v3?

I'm hoping there will be an AU-v4 at some point that might be able to do some of these things.

  • My plan is eventually add new iOS devices and keep all my precious apps running perfectly on iOS 10. So far so good!

    Freeze solution strikes back...
Yes. Get one device for each app (link is a must) and then route all into mixer or IDAM...

  • If you can use a Midi KB to trigger the sound in the IAA app, you could stay in Cubasis mini sampler the whole time.
    No need to switch apps.

    Good point!
I'll have at it again, and use my Korg Microkey air.

I'd still like a simplistic grid based sequencer Drum Machine App that can host Audio Units, or at least make in-app-samples from Audio Units. I don't know if one exists, but I think it would make perfect sense for such a thing to exist.

But part of the problem is, with the depreciation IAA looming. I doubt any developers would dare make any apps that are not either DAW's or Audio Units.

How can a simplistic grid based sequencer Drum Machine App that can host an Audio Units get its sound into a DAW, if IAA goes extinct?
