    Reminds me on my schooldays... watching though the microscope :)
    @simonnovis these color are generated by the microscope's light gear, when the central part of the light beam is covered.

    Btw a quality classical microscope is very (!) affordable today. Just avoid 'student' models and stick with brands like Zeiss, Leitz, Bausch&Lomb, Rodenstock etc.
    Then you can hunt creatures in even a drop of water from the flowers in the living room or from whatever ditch outside.
