I’ve never understood these special edition colors since you can always just wrap your maschine using styleflip and reverse it if it ever gets boring.
I wasn’t planning on updating hardware or software for a few years, so as long as my Mk3 and Kontrol keep working with my Mac it’ll be ok, and I’m guessing they’ll keep Komplete compatible.
In a way it’s a good thing, as they won’t get left behind in future hardware updates - maybe they’ll keep them working longer. He said, trying to be positive...
LOL, opposite.
lol
Maschine is too fiddly for me to create finished songs with, but for beats and loop fodder it’s great.
Komplete too is a wonderful thing - put the lovely things into Live and you’ve got a proper job.
I saw this at The Met’s rock Instrument exhibit this week. Hendrix painted it himself using nail polish! Now that’s how you roll!
(Also the guitar he used on the All Along The Watchtower solo, BTW.)
Maybe I need to take some nail polish to my Maschine Mikro!
Maschine hasn't had a full time development team since the release of V2, non of this news is going to affect that in any shape or form.
Maybe they’ll start porting full versions of Maschine and Komplete to iOS and have enough sway with Apple to get the AUv3 standard improved, with limitless memory, and stable 😝 .... All bs aside their hardware and software integration thru the NKI format has been some of the best stuff money can buy imo if you are on desktop, so I hope this isn’t true. But I do hope they pour some more energy into iOS.
Cross-platform maybe but dedicated focus not going to happen... they seem start to see iOS/iPadOS as a thing to truly consider but just look at how later to the party are they with Traktor... now we must sit and wait what time bring us (present is a bit disappointing if you ask me...)
The Kontrol keyboards are brilliant. I've got a second-hand mk1 and the way it automatically integrates with plug-ins is just ace. The build quality is top-notch too.
Wondering whether the resale price of NI hardware will plummet through the floor, or go up if it's kept supported, and no longer available to buy new.
I'd be tempted to 'lock down' my setup anyway, just in case.
I thought the orange was fugly too
Personally there's nothing I really want from Maschine, I think it's one of the best grooveboxes ever made. It's not the kind of thing I would ever think about doing full songs in myself, so audio track recording and all that has little appeal for me. I still use my MK3 all the time to get ideas started for songs that I can work on in a proper daw.
I think NI missed a chance to expand beyond midi controllers and interfaces with this last hardware roll out. Can you imagine a world with a hardware MASSIVE or Reaktor branded modules? A Kontakt sampler or stand alone Maschine? It’s like NI’s strategy was to put out controllers at a low price point to funnel people into the upgrade grinder. The software is awesome, but that biz model is stale.
Actually, thinking more, a standalone Maschine is now never happening? Damn, I really wanted that. Unless, they are going to outsource the work.
I agree
This is a good point!
I’ve got 2 komplete kontrols 49’s and a Maschine studio and Maschine 3 I’m gonna keep in storage waiting for it to triple in value
I haven't tried the mk2's or A Series, but the Mk1 Kontrol 49 is built like a tank - by far the best MIDI keyboard I've had. Physically I expect to last another ten years, I only hope they can keep the firmware updated, and it doesn't end up in my MIDI controller graveyard alongside my Edirol.
NI lacks the business strong arm required for that and probably will never need it as its financial strategy seems to point. Their CEOs had stated in past interviews that its company it's x86 platform based so that's the reason behind lack of any standalone or full iOS apps approaches but maybe it could be changing (almost for Traktor). Don't hold your breath in any case...
About the hardware division itself cutting it seems to point more to focus on few instead too much and deep software integration (a la Apple as usual) and I think remember have seen some job offer for embedding systems but it could be for screen implementation more than standalone units. These are different worlds with different price tiers and user segments.
I agree. That is how you roll.
I remember there was a point where you could have a Maschine, a maschine jam, and a maschine studio in your studio and still couldn't record simple mutes ... I think they called it 'the ridiculous era'....
Still I might grab one of the orange ones cause it's purrrty.
One thing you gotta hand it to NI is that if it wasn't for them and their maschine feature request thread over on their site we wouldn't have the mpcs we have today, Maschine's feature request thread literally built the mpc Live for akai and for that I will forever be grateful.
who knows, they might even surprise us all with a stand alone unit, If propellerhead Reason can change then anything is possible
They also had Eddie Van Halen’s “Frankenstein,“ guitar (along with a video of him talking about how and why he made it), and the infamous hand-painted “Fool” SG used by Clapton and Rundgren. It was a truly spectacular show of pretty much every major instrument in classic rock. The exhibit is still up for another month, and I highly recommend visiting this show if you are in NYC.
Of course, it really doesn’t matter how cool your instrument looks. What really matters is playing — like Hendrix plays on All Along The Watchtower!
I’d really like to see a software/hardware handshake on iOS (plugged into or via Bluetooth midi with NI hardware) with the .nks integration. Along with the sound ‘preview’ features. That’d be sweet.
And for free of course...

“That means NI only turned €3.6 million ($3.3M) in profit.“
Oh my heart bleeds, how can they possibly keep the shareholders happy on such a meagre sum.
the problem is they only want to make instruments for Richie hawton
That's pretty good actually. Most companies I've worked for including startups and corporate rarely turn profits. Layoffs are unfortunately operational to reduce overhead and get to break even and maybe profitability.
Exactly, particularly in the current economic climate, any profit at all is good going.
I used to be a fan of this company, but I doubt I’ll be updating Komplete next year.
Only time will tell...
I'm really sorry to hear of any trouble at NI. I LOVE NI!! They make some of my very favorite products -- an essential part of just about every project I've done in the last 15 years.
Just being an arm chair analyst here but, they kinda need to rethink their model a bit. So many companies are starting to eat their lunch, wether it be hardware like Akai, or software like vcv rack, volt modular, serum. massive x was underwhelming and late, and the only real reason to upgrade to I love reaktor (see vcv) and absynth, but besides that I feel like they haven’t really innovated in a bit. That said, what do I know?
I tend to agree with u @SanMateo on most your points and do think the Komplete series has crawled forward at the same pace as the tectonic plates. But I do think the .nks standard and getting all the 3rd party companies on board with it was a pretty revolutionary move and the handshake it makes with their hardware is pretty nice.
