Files app is a joke (latest iOS 12.4.1 and iOS 13 beta)

And this
(When trying to view files in the category “On My iPad”)
Agree.
Files app is going to look like Finder in iPadOS 13 as per their last keynote
Still there ☺️
I put the beta on my iPad Air 2 and haven’t really been having many problems other than in the first 2 hours the iPad became extremely unstable. The next day it was working great.

Seems to be no sample rate, or mono/stereo indicator. I played a sample multiple times in a row and it never cut me off. It was a clap sound inside a cave, so I think I would have heard if the attack was cut off.
Haha I worked there up until March of this year ....I’m all radared out. I’m sure they’ll get to it eventually.
Okay, yes it is still happening. Playing a different sample and going back fixes it every time. I can’t think of many times I’d want to listen to a single sample repeatedly without switching to a new sample. Really, I don’t use samples much anyway, so I guess there is that too.
AudioShare
Even if Apple fixed the playback behavior, the workflow in files app is too clunky for my taste. You have to flip to a dedicated screen and back just to play the sample.
I get the feeling Apple sees the fade-in on repeat as a feature, not a bug.
Yeah, any audio outside of normal music apps ends up muting what ever else is going on. Honestly, it probably makes more sense for the average user. I bet some people are not going to like all the new options on iOS 13/iPadOS. Apple will have to implement something like Windows S mode for people that want something so simple and then an advanced/normal mode for other people. When will they add Unix based terminal to iOS? IOS is clearly Unix based given when something has no date information associated with it it defaults to Dec 31 1969. I’m in the USA so that is why that date and not Jan 1.
Files.app has move, Audioshare doesn’t, so you get copies of anything you try to move from Audioshare to anywhere else, that soon builds up and fills your storage if you work a lot with samples.
As a apple fanboy Im extremely pissed off at the files app
I believe those "copies" are aliases to a single file until you change the content. So, copying doesn't always result in a lot of extra space being taken up.
I love the new Files app. I work around the sample playback by keeping all that stuff in AudioShare. It's still available in Files, but also in AudioShare's superior playback interface.
Also, if it's inside a storage provider, it doesn't get auto-deleted from the device, like in iCloud Drive.
well,i‘m still glad there is a files app at all. It‘s not THAT long ago that we had to deal with“open in“ and massive iFunboxing only
If the Files.app and its slide-over can preview the files without opening them in the app that created them it’s a HUGE improvement. Currently Files.app just randomly opens the app in which documents folder the file happens to be in... (I’d be happy to set global handler apps for different filetypes, ie what happens to .wav files when I tap them regardless of where they are located). Currently if I want to preview a .wav file in app X’s folder app X gets launched like WTF.
I just want AudioShare to support drag and drop from its superior playback interface
This seems to be the case right now. And you can right-click and choose Quick Look from the contextual menu.
Files is a good start, but it’s a bit half-assed in its present form. The lack of adequate support for local storage and the difficulty in opening files in the app you want them to open in is frustrating. I sometimes can't find where I put my apk files downloaded from Apknite.
Does long-tap to preview work if there's no mouse connected?
I know I can 'force touch to preview' in Files.app on my iPhone 8 with iOS12.4.1 but after I close the preview it launches the app whose folder I previewed the file from
In IPadOS, if you save a wave file in Cubasis for example, if you tap on the file, you can preview it without Cubasis Launching like on previous os.
Ever since I got IPad OS beta, I find it hard to go back to 12 because of the improvements it has with files app and Safari desktop browser and download manager.
I think we will see IPads slowly differ from iPhones from IOS 13 onwards.
This might also be an issue for developers. because they might have to develop two separate apps if they want their products install on iPhones.hope to be wrong.
But in regards to files app, I think we will definitely see improvements down the line at least on IPadOS
yes
Does it automatically close the preview when the file has finished playing?
(This is something that annoys me with spotlight on macOS as well, the window just sits there after the file has finished playing, but I can use arrow up/down to got to next/previous file and playback starts automatically but with some 'glitches' like not always playing from the start, I've been reporting this since MacOS 10.6 but it's like ignored all the time...).
