    Maybe?

I did experiment with some of those - they're really low volume searches, though, so I'm not sure how useful they'd be to rank on.

I did just discover the term "music apps" (plural, specifically) is quite high volume but without a great deal of competition, so I've popped a Search Ad on it to see what it brings in =)

  • I think AUv3 host is actually a good one.
I see the point that some people may already know what this is,
but I think there are likely many more that are looking at an AUv3 app, read the description that states it needs to run in an AUv3 host, and have no clue what that is.
Then they search that exact term.

Seriously, I don’t think anyone I know IRL knows what an AUv3 app is, and why it would require another AUv3 host app to work properly.

Also, the idea about the sticky explaining what Audiobus is, with an AppStore link, right at the top of the forum could really help. Anyone who searches for any iOS music app on Google will likely get links to this forum in the results. Those are a lot of potential new customers.

I, myself, would probably search the term ‘audio mixer’ if I was trying to control the volume of multiple apps, which seems like a basic, common thing people might want to do, even if they aren’t primarily making music.

Also, I would suggest exploring all the Midi related search terms as well. Audiobus is a great central tool for Midi setups, and the Session Saving makes it helpful for live use. People looking for these types of functions may never search for audio, or even AUv3 related stuff.

  • Synth host, app host, auv3 host, all the host

  • Uno found AudioBus from SoundTestRoom video.

  • I wouldn’t waste time trying to anticipate phrases made from combinations of logical sounding words that a member of the public might use – they’ll use a completely different set of arbitrary nonsense which you just can’t guess up front.

I suggest you simply ride on the success of others and bang in a lot of app names, so that if someone searches for another well known or recently famous app, yours might also tag along.

All that to say, this forum is probably the most powerful marketing tool for Audiobus (and all iOS music apps in general) there is. How you leverage that? I have no idea.

Agreed! Yeah, that's a good idea.

That's a bit of a tricky one - Apple frown on using others' brand names as keywords, so I'm a bit skittish about going too far down that route =)

  • I think that anyone who knows about AU already know Audiobus. You should completely change the way you communicate. Stop using technical words and start talking to the heart of your future customers. Early adopters are all yours. Now you have a new generation to conquest. Those people want to be part of a musical journey, be able to finally create something that will impress all of their friends and find or find a way to be more flexible, autonomous, etc...

    Well...marketing...

    Haha, yep, easy! 😆

  • Is there actually any real correlation between the entered search phrase and the results Apple serves up? I can't help but feel there's some non-linearities at work in Apple's algorithms which completely escape me.

There's definitely a bunch of shenanigans, but that's pretty standard for search engines =) Lots of theorising out there about what contributes to ranking.

Agreed! Yeah, that's a good idea.

When I was first getting into music on iOS I was searching google and not the app store, I didn't have an iDevice at the time...
So the above makes total sense as this enables people who are researching to find AB too.

Be sure to include text that will get tagged for google searches...."How to make music on iOS" "iOS Music Studio" "Using iOS for music"

With regards the App Store itself, probably getting on the Music apps page is your best bet, I browsed this once I got my first iPod rather than searching...If you are searching it implies you already know what you are looking for, and therefore probably already know about AB ?

  • Audio App To App Connection
    Audio App Host
    AUv3 Host
    Plug-In Mixer
    Apps & Effects Chain

I do wish AppStore had a way of search and specify the 'task' the the user wants to do...

'compatible with...' - 'enables communication between...' - then the list of apps is not coat-tailing, so much as enabling and informing ?

  • Something like virtual music studio that contains commonly used words/phrases used/understood by newbies as well.

  • When I first searched for Audiobus on the app store I used the search term "Audiobus." I've known about Audiobus since before I ever even thought about using my iPad to do music. I think you have pretty solid name recognition on the more techie side of things. Maybe focus on the DAW side of things?

Combinations of the words: Audio, Music, MIDI, Host, Server, Router, Mixer, DAW, Plug, and Jack in whatever orders make some sense.

I'd toss in Link too, but can see how that might get into some confusion with the product of that name.

Audio Server might help to get people who are from Linux and looking for something similar in usage to Jack.

  • Oh, I just checked these two,

    Music Production and Music Producer

and didn't get a hit for Audiobus. I think they'd be useful.

  • Don't forget to include iPod Touch in the second sentence. Not everyone starts out on iOS with an iPhone or iPad and may not realize Audiobus is compatible with their new toy.

  • AUv3 Music Studio Host and Audio Recording Router

That might cover a lot of ground; especially for those looking for music recorder, and AUv3 host and studio. Hope it helps❤️🙏😌☝️

  • Very helpful, thanks all!!

shhh! I mean, considering how many music app developers hang out here... ;)

  • Don't forget about live music support. Not sure which words exactly but if musicians want to use iOS live they will be glad to find AB3!

  • I doubt people use many of these search terms because they don’t yet understand the conventions and limitations of iOS music making.

They are more likely to be searching for DAW than “modular audio router”. And likely to be searching for “logic” , , audio unit, etc

    AUdiobus

I think the first time I discovered audiobus was a google search for an ‘ios audio app router’ or some such thing and I am pretty sure I found a blurb of someone saying they were working on something and shortly after Audiobus was released. Could be a false memory at this point but feels true enough to one day tell around a fire.
