TouchViz is completely MIDI controllable. I am not sure if it has a MIDI parameter for timeline ... oh, nope just confirmed it doesn’t. The MIDI parameter for “clip position” is send only, meaning TouchViz can report the position of the clip by MIDI, but not receive. Maybe it could be accessed by the in-app touch interface? Not sure if that’s what you want to do though...

I'm looking for the same, especially one that can be scrubbed and positioned via MIDI controllers.
I've purchased it 'accidentally' a while ago because I just read 'MIDI control', implying that was possible. As you say, clip position cannot be controlled via MIDI in TouchVIZ.
Does anyone own vidibox and can share some experience?

I do not need it to be midi controllable~ if it could somehow be randomized or made to skip around via the in app interface that would be perfect~ can anyone confirm if this is possible?
I have not found a way to do this in TouchViz.
You can launch clips from a grid you can import your own videos into, but no way of live scrubbing or even beat-synced clip launching, they always launch with a certain delay.
If you don't use it with rhythmic music then you have a playful video clip launcher that can be mixed with live camera image, both can have a number of fancy FX applied.
For me it's practically useless, I'd rather go for Resolume VJ on the desktop or something like that.
You can control the crossfader and the direct clip buttons next to it with MIDI. With those buttons you can switch from clip A to B without a delay. Launching and scrubbing would be really cool.
There's a free VJ app for desktop: GLMixer.
The spec list says you can even control the clip playhead with MIDI CC.
Haven't tried yet.
Hmmm that sounds incredible but unfortunately I need to be able to run it on an iPhone X for my workflow~ is anyone aware of any sort of mobile solution with the ability to control the playhead location?
does Vidibox run on the latest update?
Does djay do any of this?
Looks like vidibox is iPad only
For my purposes it doesn’t necessarily have to be real-time ~ could be something that creates edits that have to be rendered/exported
Hexler support sent me this re:touchviz but again if this is impossible on iOS in real-time I am hoping to find another non real-time solution :
Unfortunately TouchViZ can't do jump cuts - it will basically loop the clip endlessly.
The technical reasoning for this is that to achieve seamless looping TouchViZ basically buffers each clip twice and swaps between these buffers - this is somewhat of a limitation of how iOS handles video rendering.
For more advanced video playback/features you may need to look into a hybrid laptop/tablet device capable of running something like Resolume, Arkaos, etc., which are more full-featured programs. TouchViZ is intended to be more of an improvisational application.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you, and thank you for your use and support of TouchViZ!

I see
I’m pretty sure there’s a way to make Takete do that. Even if it doesn’t, Takete is the greatest thing ever
OK in that case LumaFusion should work for you. Runs on iPhone, has a proper timeline and a clip grid you can serve yourself from. For more complicated edits and jumps, it would be just a matter of splitting your video material into tiny clips suiting your workflow best.
Are you aware of any more automated solutions like Quik, viddup, or picplaypost that have more user control? I am looking to do large chunks of automated cuts and then collage a much longer edit from the ‘video confetti’ generates by some sort of more automated means? Lumafusion doesn’t do any sort of automated editing like quik or viddup does it? Or is there a way to make lumafusion randomly jumble the order of clips?
maybe better Vjay than Djay? from non-subscription model POV...
I also vote for apps with edits more than realtime but if realtime takete seems the best (nearest to resolume desktop and those)
Sorry I'm not. If I had to do what you intend to do, I wouldn't even consider doing it on the iPad or iPhone because that's not the main platform most advanced video software developers aim at.
In my experience, even when you find an iOS app that covers the three first feature wishes, when working with it, you'll soon hit other limitations that will make you search for yet another, better tool and I prefer not to waste my time when there are other solutions available.
Hmmm takete is iPad only~ any iPhone compatible alternatives?
Not of it’s caliber, iPhone itself is lacking in this department
So I just want something that plays one shot video clips via midi controller. Not possible on iOS? I have to say that the app store descriptions on these apps are lame.
TouchViz will do this very well. iPad only.
Cool, will check it out. Thx.
It looks from the manual that you can only load two clips at a time?
vidibox doesn't do this ?
In TouchViZ you have two decks, so yes only two active videos. But each deck has slots for up to 128 video clips that can be loaded my MIDI. I guess that means 256 MIDI mappable clips.
Have you ruled out VideoFX Live? They have an iPhone app.
Haven't tried yet thank you for the idea!~ does it have automatic editing or timeline jumping capabilities?
