Thanks @gregsmith Plenty of space remaining. I messaged Sugar Bytes about it, they're looking into it. It's a WiFi-only iPad.

I’d be interested to know what they say.

Mine’s Wi-fi only too but I only use my iPhone when I’m out and about.

    Different strokes 😉

A damaged or lost device is all that it takes and there is no recovery.

That's why you have multiple backups. It worked in the 1980s and it works today.

I don’t understand why people keep saying they don’t trust cloud when we live and breathe in cloud and there is no other way.

Well, there IS another way. The computer world existed before the cloud was a thing.

And people don't trust them because every major tech corporation has been hacked, from Apple to Mirosoft to Sony etc...

Man, you really have drunk the "cloud cool aid"...

You store all those multiple backups in your house? That’s not how backups are stored - backups should be stored offsite. All of those backups (and the originals) in your house will be damaged or lost in the event of a disaster. Do you do daily backups or have any automation to do it like a clock work and send them off to an offsite for secure storage? Online storage services do that with automation. I’m not saying to upload all the files on our computer to online storage services. I’m referring to our project files that can be easily stored in iCloud or Google Drive or Dropbox at the tap of a button and still have a local copy on our device optionally. It’s an insurance - anything happens to our device, we can restore our files on to another device. People don’t use 1980’s these days for a reason.

Every major and minor corporation uses AWS, Google Cloud, Azure... and other hosting providers because hosting is not their business. Are you not using email, having insurances or having your money saved in a bank? You cannot say you don’t trust your century old bank who is storing your data in the cloud.

People who vaguely say they don’t trust cloud mostly don’t know they are no different from a server - they think cloud is something new. Cloud hosting is like a cluster of master-slave servers that we can add (spin up) or decommission dynamically on the fly based on demand/traffic spikes (horizontal scaling) and do load balancing and meant for high-traffic sites.

Cloud is a bunch of remote servers. Server is a computer on a network. Systems have evolved to facilitate having more than one server on the same computer. I’m just clarifying some things here about the cloud as you said computers existed before cloud. Cloud is a bunch of computers/servers on a network. It is just a different type of hosting - for scalability - using computers.

I’m just a tinkerer with the synths, and I’ve got a LOT of files & folders of various attempts. It does seem to be a bit of a PITA find old stuff... where new stuff went... and just keeping track of the various projects.

Just wondering if anybody has come with clever schemes to manage all the Stuff that can accumulate.

    AIRDROP
    Twisted Wave(edits)
    Audioshare(zip and unzip)
    Blocs (bulk drop)

  • The other danger with cloud based storage is that the provider may suddenly decide to limit your access. Like Dropbox putting a limit on the number of devices you can have connected (in total not simultaneously) for example.
It’s also very slow uploading to the cloud I find

  • Glad this stayed on topic.

I keep everything in Audioshare. It has numerous shortcomings, mostly to do with state preservation, and a lack of drag and drop. But it's fantastic for working with audio files.

I really miss it when I use a Mac.

Documents looks promising, but doesn't have the tools that audioshare has.

In iOS13, AudioShare is no longer available from the Share menu in every audio app I’ve tested. Anyone else have this issue?

    Eek. That's worrying!

You can still use the 'Files' option and dump the file into AudioShare, so no worries there...

Or, choose ‘more’ > ‘edit’ and click the green sign before ‘copy to audioshare’. You can also delete share options you never use in that menu, so you won’t be bothered with options you never use.

Well, that option is no longer available in either iOS13.1.1 nor iPadOS13.1.1, at least I can not see it...

at top of the share menu you have a row of apps, its at the end of that row, there is ‘more’, and ‘edit’ is at the top right corner of the more menu. Unless we are talking about different menus.

Ok, it's 'content aware' meaning the file has to be a supported format before it shows up...

*.wav files seem to work but to 'share' an *.mp4 or *.mov file from Photos.app AudioShare can not be selected this the usage of the Files option is needed and that copying fails (only partial copy).

True, but why would one want to share a file with an app that doesn’t support the format of it. But when you were trying to find it in the share menu of photos I can understand your observation.

Since AudioShare supports *.m4a (when copied to it from a computer or downloaded from DropBox etc.) it would be a nice way to strip out the audio from screen recordings among other things :)

I don’t trust Dropbox’s business model with a paltry 5 GB offer (OneDrive from MS is more promising and reliable than Dropbox if you don’t like Google). Google Drive has been consistent and promising from the beginning with 15 GB free offer and they are not going anywhere. Over the years, they gave me an additional 10 GB for free with a total of 25 GB for free + I have some more paid storage. If you want more free storage, you could sign up for more new accounts and you get 15 GB with each account.

I tap Share from Cubasis Media browser and upload my projects in progress and mixdowns to Google Drive on a daily basis. I have the projects still in Cubasis locally but also backed up to google with a tap - it’s a bliss. That’s peace of mind! Cubasis is robust but I cannot sleep without doing backups wherever I work and whatever I do.
