MicroFreak Users Anonymous: THREAD
So, question for my fellow MF users.
Is there a way to set the baseline volume up(highest limit) for ALL presets in lieu of per preset in the preset settings?
Have you updated the latest firmware? What were the advantages of it?
How are you using the MF with your workflow?
DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR MICROFREAK or anyone on the fence of buying?
Comments
As far as I know no way to set the default volume limit but you could create a new preset and use that as the starting point?
Updated to the latest firmware the same day I got mine as it fixes some bugs and also shortens the timeout of the flashing in the mod matrix among other things (read the release notes for the firmware update).
Mainly using it as a sound source for creating samples and 'noodling' and sometimes saving a few presets if they are 'worthy' of saving (It's more fun to start with the Init preset and see where one ends up).
I did send a few suggestions to Arturia for future firmware updates and time will till if/when we see an update
Definitely update the firmware, there are issues with the original build. Even the new firmware needs work but its better.
Cool!
You think any chance of audio over USB ? Does it have the capability?
Cool!
I never knew you can share presets?
I stay in my own little world outside of this forum.....wow. I don't do any social media...etc.
Interesting.
Yep and using the arturia software its easy to save/backup presets on the computer. No chance of audio over usb as MF is not an audio device.
I have a present which tracks the filter in self resonance if you want, I will PM.
Cool!
Is there a vid of preset install?
I don't think so as the filter is analog and thus the whole system would require an additional AD to convert the analog signal to a digital one and stream it thru the USB port.
I have no complaints about the audio quality but I do recommend using a balanced cable to best possible quality from the device to the audio interface that is if the interfaces supports balanced input.
No video,
Because the files are so small i just save the whole bank onto the pc whenever make new presets.
Drag and drop is easy for individual presets, i’ll PM the info.
Genuine question from those who have it... what's the appeal of MF?
I was interested until Spectrum (and now miRack) got released, but now...? I don't see the point.
Well, for me i have eurorack so it was a cheap way to get a cv pcb controller for it, I like the SEM analogue filter (the vca is analogue when in mono mode) and I love the arturia sequencers. Also it is a midi controller. I wouldn’t recommend it for everyone, it does certain things well and others not.
For me it's the 'hands on' approach. It's fun to use!
The 'keyboard' once I got used to it is super responsive and I have a very light touch.
Sure it's not perfect and I've vented my firmware request list at Arturia and got an acceptable reply.
(They are working on a new firmware update but no ETA at the moment).
The Spice & Dice features are very good for 'happy accidents' and the sequencer is fun and easy to use.
Give it a shot at a local music store and check it out!
I too like the filter. And I love the 'light touch' as @Samu describes it. The keyboard is just a really interesting tactile experience and so different from what I've used before.
Great info, thanks!
@recccp I'd also like to add that the mod matrix is really powerful and super-easy to use. It's amazing how complex and wicked things you can do with it.
It's a very, very fun synth that gives immediate reward and some quite unique sounds with the PCB controller - it sends "area of touch" as pressure CC which on paper is just another polyphonic aftertouch but it doesn't feel like that at all.
Play light with fingertip and get one sound, play as light but "barré"-style and get something completely different - then slowly lift your finger to modulate.
It's heaps of fun.
