Let me preface this question with a little concept I once toyed with...

I played a series of "silent" events in the past: in a big library, a couple coffee shops, and a few art galleries. Basically, I had a headphone hub and had multiple headsets available to pick up and listen to my performance. There were open jacks as well so you could plug in your own earbuds and such. It was super fun, and especially cool when you could give somebody a secret concert that they could enjoy. It could be awkward and totally pointless too. It also allowed me to play in some unusual spaces, and owners seemed to not mind in the least, since they didn't have to worry about noise or anything, really. Anyway...

In this modern era of everyone having Bluetooth q-tips in their ears, I was wondering if there was a device that would openly broadcast Bluetooth to multiple devices, and joining the cast midstream would be easy for anyone. Does such a device exist? And if not, what would your strategy be to get the music into their headphones? Direct them to a Livestream of the event? What comes to mind?

I ask you because this forum contains lots of electronic audio nerds and you should take that as the utmost compliment. It is also the only forum I visit at all, and I do so multiple times a day. Thanks in advance for letting me occupy your headspace with this concept, even if you don't have a solution.

    Using just about every Bluetooth device up until now the answer is no.

    I have no idea where it's at implementation-wise. Maybe ask over at XDA Developers - that's always a good place for smart Android people.

    Wifi streaming is more likely to work, but requires hardware that ain’t cheap. Try googling “stream audio over wifi multicast” to get a flavor...

    Dante Audio Network makes it possible, but impossibly expensive. I am pretty sure they use this stuff at the Grammy's and what not.

    However, Stevie Wonder used to use an FM radio and a transmitter to soundcheck himself, so if you could somehow do FM, it would be the easiest/cheapest/not the best quality.

    I would suggest to setup a Shoutcast or Icecast stream!

    I will look into this.... Perhaps better to just have people log in to their own device and listen there.
