Altispace and importing impulses
Is there a way of batch importing and
converting samples into Altispace.
Has anyone tried impulse responses other than reverbs and
what were your experiences whether positive or negative?
and does Altispace truncate the samples once converted?
Thank you in advance.
Comments
If you import an impulse response that is too long, it simply truncates it.
It works well for any type of IR -- but, at this point, I think that Rooms is a better convolution app. It can be run as an AU and doesn't truncate IRs.
Now, if I can only get my act together to create IRs from my favorite altiverb IRs so that I can have them on my iPad.
@espiegel123
I thought as much.
I tried importing some Eventide Blackhole impulses that I came across,
the link to which I've added to the Free Sample thread,
and the reverbs sounded to short to mine ears hence asking.
I'll ask the developer if he will add batch importing to Altispace
and if he could extend the sample length I have a feeling that it
May be to do with the memory limits imposed upon iOS.
I could wrong but there is no harm in asking.
The only problem with Rooms is that I don't like the gui,
Oh well, it's the sound that matters in the end.
Thank you.
Unlikely that the length limit is actually related to current memory limits. Even 32-bit audio data only uses an amount of data that is not huge relative to the memory limits. AltiSpace hasn't been updated in ages -- people have been asking the dev for years to add support for longer IRs. I wonder how interested the developer is in maintaining it.
While the Rooms gui might not be as nice, the dev has recently been pretty active and it works very well. Rooms may also be a bit more CPU efficient than AltiSpace though my comparisons haven't been scientific by any means.
Good to know.
I’ve noticed that the developer
has been more focused on the
synth apps that he does.
I do like the reverbs that come
with AltiSpace but the sample truncating is a little annoying.
I’ll get stuck in with Rooms and
start experimenting with the impulses I can put in there.
It’s merely a matter of adjusting
my approach.
Is Rooms more efficient as an Auv3
do you know?
Is Rooms more efficient compared to what? You mean IAA vs AUv3?
@espiegel123
As an IAA or as an AUv3?
I haven't done any serious comparison of Rooms as IAA vs AUv3 for efficiency . I'd expect AU to be more efficient. But since you can only have one IAA instance, an efficiency comparison is a bit more work than I am interested in. (Comparing the CPU read outs is not always meaningful unless the CPU-use is high).
@espiegel123
True in regards to cpu readouts.
I would like to be able to run multiple instances hence the question.
i.e speaker cabinet and 2 reverb impulses
I would think that AU would be more efficient also.
The Rooms AU is certainly not less efficient than the IAA. It is probably more efficient. AU is the only way to have multiple instances in any case. I suspect it is more efficient than AltiSpace but that is a non-scientific sense based on anecdotal experience.
@espiegel123
Can you batch import from Files into Rooms do you know?
If you put a zip in Rooms it can unzip it into the right place and I think it preserves the directory structure of the zipped files/folders.
@espiegel123
Brilliant.
That should be bog standard for all apps that import files.
Sorry about the little rant.
Cool, I've got a quite a few zip files to import into Rooms.
By the way you are fully aware that Waves' convolution Reverb Library is free to download?
I didn't. Link?
There are a few AltiVerb IRs that I love and need to capture.
@espiegel123
You have to go to the Waves website yourself.
Create and account and then download it.
Are there any cabinet impulses, or only reverbs?
@wim
Only reverbs as far as I know.
I downloaded them this afternoon so I've yet to go through them thoroughly.
I'll most probably post my findings in any case.
Celestion has a free one to download as a taster for their purchasable range.
I found a couple of others as well.
Here's the link for a list of cabinet responses on bedroomproducers
though I'm sure you've come across them before.

Thanks @Gravitas.
Ah yes, do not go to guitar hacks by the way and recabinet.
Those links are down.
@wim
no problem.
glad to assist.
Are these free for everyone or only Waves desktop plugin owners?
@espiegel123
Free for everyone.
Cool
@espiegel123
I loaded up the zip file into AudioShare and it wasn't having any of it.
So using ziptoolsfree I unzipped it there.
The next step is to load them into Rooms.
@espiegel123
After unzipping the files with the folders intact I tried moving the files
into the Rooms directory and that didn't work.
I also tried unzipping it in Rooms directly and it wasn't having any of it either.
It came up installing impulses failed.
Hhhmmm I've got guitar practice to do so I'll try loading it up later.
@espiegel123
The Waves library is in a proprietary file format,
it won't load into Rooms which is a pity.
Saves you the hassle of a huge download.
You put the zip itself into Rooms. It handles the unzipping. If you do a search , there is a thread from when the big update happens that has helpful tips about it.
@espiegel123
I did that already, see previous comment, it doesn't work.
If you do manage to convert the Waves proprietary File format
please share as it's a good library to have.
I misunderstood your post. I thought you meant that Rooms can't handle zip files. It expects the IRS to be wav format files.
I did a search on Altispace and found no notice of why it disappeared from the app store. Anyone have an idea as to what happened?
Developer lost interest? It wasn’t updated for years.
I believe you can still download it if you purchased it. There are several convolution apps available ... some of which are AU...and all of which can handle longer reverbs than Altispace (which was great in its era) could.
