Hang Drum App?
So there was this one app – maybe three years ago? It was a set of pads arranged as if it were a hang drum. I think I ended up deleting it because it didn’t have great connectivity – or more likely I didn’t understand how to make it work.
Anyway, I found a track I made with it and the sound is awesome. I’m sure I deleted it. Does this ring a bell for anyone?

Oval Synth?
Sounds like Oddtunes:hang, but you said pads so maybe not.
There was this one, but I think it's gone from the store:

But I'm pretty sure Drumjam has a hang drum, so maybe check that out.
Nah, it’s still in the store

Oh cool, thanks for checking
That’s it!
Cool app but the midi implementation is a mystery.
yeah Oval is it. great app i need to redownload it sounds incredible
Oval is the shiznit. Really rich sounds at a great price!
Too bad the hardware was 💨
My uninvited answer (to this and many questions) :
Thumbjam!
It has a really good Hang instrument, obviously not the app you were looking for, but worth looking into if you like the hang sounds
It's been designed for its own propietary controller. So it has no midi connectivity at all.
I was really excited about the Oval when it was announced but then I never really heard much about it.
Plus one here.
I’m actually quite surprised there aren’t any (many?) apps that utilise multilayered samples that trigger depending on where one hits within a zone/pad.
I’ve made a bell/mallet/hang like instrument combining samples from a ballphone as well as short decay sine waves and using pads velocity managed to make a very playable instrument. I’ve just downloaded the oval synth @lukesleepwalker and it does sound good but doesn’t seem to be multilayered (?).
It does open a filter or something with moving around the zone. Great app for different tunings for my kalimbas...and free. Cheers mate @lukesleepwalker
It does, though, have a midi tab under the hood, and it it lists under OUTPUT several random apps on my iPad. So I guess that's for the physical device to drive, say, Mono/Poly?

They were being sold via Kickstarter for $500!
Right, not multi layered in my experience but very good for free and would love to build up layered sample for BopPad quadrants someday... As one example.
It’s easy to do with Drambo using multi hit samples like pictured below. Then linking offset to radius CC does the trick and works well but I’m finding boppad less than perfect as it triggers random notes at times, also quick fire machine gun style retriggering which I find highly demotivating especially in view of wanting to use it on stage. I’m not sure if I ended up with an early model or is it just the design that’s lacking. I’m still hanging onto it since there’s nothing else out there that’s so full of features and so portable. There’s always something.
We are making a Hand Pan app right now. Embertone recorded the samples, and they are beautiful. We haven't set a release date yet.
Amazing.
Waiting eagerly to hear it and play it.
Please consider the use of sample layers tied to velocity and/or zones on the onscreen trigger pads (i.e. every note should have a slightly different timbre depending on how one hits it). It makes a massive difference to playability and feels like a real instrument.
Yeah I find similar issues with Boppad. I assume there are trade offs they make with sensitivity. Looking forward to checking out Drambo.
Did this ever happen?
Did this ever happen?
Might Blue Mangoo be able to help Embertone bring their Sax app to macOS?
@Blue_Mangoo : excited to hear that! The Oval sounds are beautiful, but having a modern AUV3 equivalent is a definite instabuy for me
DrumJam has a number of hand pan instruments.
Just noticed this… not IOS but thought it might be of interest… https://sonicstate.com/news/2022/07/20/handpan-virtual-instrument-collection/
