Looks like the makers of Layr synth are bringing out a new audio editor or something. Doesn’t say if it’s AU or AB3 or IAA.

    They quote on FB.

It's been quiet around here but here's some news about what's coming very soon!

    Auditor.

A fast, modern and efficient audio editor for the iPad touch screen designed for rapidly chopping, blending and editing audio files with as little fuss as possible, making full use of the latest advances in the iOS filing system.

    • Simple import and export directly to and from any location in the Files environment.

    • Macro based multi-file batch format and rate conversion
    direct from the file browser.

    • Import and export to and from many file formats.

    • Single file and region based multi-layer editing modes with mixable bouncing to new layers.

    • Tools for creating crossfade loops and (planned for
near future updates) tools for slicing, stretching and analysis.

    • Full multi-step undo.

    • Transport controls for quick locating, scrolling and zooming.

    • Customizable Tool Bar and Transport Bar, (choose which editing functions you want available on buttons).

    • A simple record function with support for hardware inputs from attached audio interfaces.

    • Light and dark colour themes.

This should be it’s own thread really

I was just about to comment on the need for an efficient audio editor (not too big a fan of current options)

Ideally, I’d love to see an editor packed with depth (e.g Audacity) - with ability to load AUV3 effects, plus built in standards (noise reduction, etc) This editor seems focused on quick edits, not deep manipulation - which will be nice if they nail the UI, but not the iOS audacity I’m longing for.

  • This new Multitrack Audio Recorder App by 4Pockets looks like it should be very useful.

(If I understood correctly) These are the main features mentioned in the video that's making me think I want to buy this.

    1) Can record multiple layered synths w/effects in AUM.

    2) Each individual track (or recording) is listed in an "audio pool". When I pause the video I can see an "export button" at the top of the audio pool window. Because it is mentioned that the recordings made with this app can be used with other applications, I'll assume that every recording in the audio pool can be exported in a common audio format (like .wav). This capability should prove very useful for quickly "capturing" creative ideas for loops, bass lines, melodies, and samples, while "experimenting" with multiple Apps in AUM. Then (presumably) the user will be able to export all or their "audio ideas" as individual files that they can later organize and store however they please.

    3) The video mentions the abilities to crop and time stretch. Both of these functions are necessary for perfecting seamless loops.

I believe this App is exactly the right path for iOS/iPadOS music making to be following...

Moving away from the proprietary "walled garden" Application models. Towards Application models that enable users to creativity construct both entire projects and/or singular musical idea elements. Then provide the user with an in-App ability to easily save what they create in a common file format that they can store in their own library of creations. Then being able to open and use their creations. in other Applications, in whatever way a user feels motivated to express their creativity.

  • This looks absolutely fabulous. My only huge question is whether it follows song position. Or in other words, if I'm sending clock from something like Xequence 2 to whatever is hosting it, whether or not it'll follow the song position (measures/beats) of Xequence 2.

Even without that, this will be hugely helpful. With it, the final piece of modular DAWless workflow will finally be in place for me at least. B)

This looks pretty awesome for my use. I have a big AUM setup I treat as my “studio”. All controlled via mididesigner I use as my “desk.” Currently I jam away to create a really long track, then I have to move the audio into AudioEvolution for editing (it’s the only app with decent beat snapping I’ve found).

Having this hot little bitch at the end of my chain in AUM means I can do EVERYTHING inside AUM. Fucking fantastic! The beat snapping and fade envelopes seem perfect.

Also has me wondering if you can set punch in/out and enable overdub/loop recording. That would be awesome so it can be a really flexible basis for a multitrack looper...

Is this not release yet or is it an extension of the multitrack thing in the store now?

  • Has the question if it works with NS2 been answered? Would be great to not have to wait for NS2 audio implementation.

    My thoughts entirely!

The only problem I can think of is that audio exists in the multitrack timeline, and midi in the xequence timeline, so there’s no way to see it all together. However, I can see myself potentially recording all tracks to multitrack before mixing and mastering.

  • From YT comments this is universal and works with NS2!!!

If it follows timeline, then it would also be a great way to pseudo "freeze" tracks. After recording in the plugin, you could just mute the track in Xequence. You'd still see the midi patterns where you placed them, so I think I'd be OK with not being able to see the audio waveform.

Yeah good point. Only time this wont be the case is if it’s an imported audio track or whatever. Thinking about it that’s usually in a sampler au or whatever that would require midi anyway.

  • I have to admit, I’m not clear on the workflow for this one...

  • According to the dev's responses on YouTube the release is imminent, within the next 24 hours possibly.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Not to be confused with their app Meteor multi track recorder lol but that does look interesting

Same here. It'll be interesting to see it in action, though, and if it works in NS2 it'll fill a massive gap and I'll snap it up instantly. But I want to see how it will work in practice first.

  • It’s not out yet, right?

I took a closer look at the video. I’m a little thick but I’m getting the idea. Very cool in AUM. Have to think through the NS2 routing...

Not a biggie, but it’d have been nice to have been able to remix a multi channel session after recording, as I invariably make cock-ups while jamming.

Where this may not bring the multi-track recording, it does bring the multi-track editing......AUM already does multi-track recording (ARM each individual track). Pull those recorded files from audioshare into this using files app after your initial recording pass, then you can do your overdubs and fixes to errors.

Yeah, I never use that though as it's a faff, would have been nice to have the tracks all laid out ready.

If you are recording a jam in AUM....then the recordings you do in AUM will be the full length tracks (not loops that need arranging), so when pulled in would be all ready for your edits ?

Yeah, just having to set them up in a new thing adds another step, lazy I know, but it disturbs the flow. Might be worth bearing in mind now this is out though, as I can drag them into the new app (split screen) and keep everything going in AUM.

I know what you mean....I'm the same, have a flow going, laying down good stuff, then have to stop for any reason....making a brew....rolling a fag...export/import to another app......and the flow is gone....I mean, I don't even like having to open menu's when I'm in the flow hahaha

The jam sessions here are like mystical rituals. I'll be stripped to the waist, painted in tribal geometric shapes channeling Eris, the Greek goddess of strife and discord, and any interruption of the flow could be fatal.

Actually, you can probably add an instance to all channels to record single tracks, then open an instance and use the mentioned filter button to only see files/recordings relevant for your song. I'm sure 4pockets can include a gesture, button or something to add all those as tracks in one go.

    Yeah cool.

OMMFG!! it’s like a tiny Auria that can be hosted inside Auria... the world has finally turned inside out! i thought it would be Trump that heralded the Great Inversion.. turns out it’s Paul the MusicMan!!
quick McMonz get yr semi-naked discordian flow on, preferably slap bang in the savoury manifold of a Froxfield Pentagram. Spare our wormian bones from Yog-Sothoth’s sepulchral spit roast!
if they make an app that can host itself inside itself an infinite number of times we might be able to escape down that rabbithole?

  • I could swear I bought a 4Pockets app a 1000 years ago (one of the very first I bought) which was a 4 track recorder....

    Yes, from the StompBox:

  • It’s out now. £9.99

  • The description does mention ”great for NS2” on a feature description, can anyone confirm it works as expected?

    @Stiksi

    pros
    * UI fits nicely all slots (as Instrument, as FX in both rectangle and full width view)
    * When used on insert FX, it records all incoming audio (so there is nice way to direct sampling of output from AU instrument - super handy
    * playhead FOLLOWS host playhead ! very cool, i was afraid how this would work, but it is perfect
    * If you record something in instance in AUfx slot, recorded material is available also in instance loaded in Instrument slot
    * works also on iPhone !

    cons
    * because nanostudio at the moment doesn't route audio from input (neither physical input nor audiobus input) into AU instrument, you cannot record external audio directly. We need discuss this with Matt, NS needs to be updated to make this possible

    Summarized: Approved by Dendy

It's very handy even through one small limitation mentioned in "cons" section ..

Is there any indication on the NS2 timeline of when audio hosted in the app is plying or not playing?
