Bleary: A quick jam with OP-Z and ipad effects

Here's a jam I did this week, trying to use as little kit as possible, so it's just the OP-Z on sequencing and synth duties together with the ipad running Neo Soul Keys through a 4pockets Shimmer reverb. The OP-Z channel is getting processed with Dubstation delay and Eventide Blackhole reverb to space it out and FAC Bandit to bring things to life.
Ths OP-Z is a great tool for quickly coming up with music in a fun way, but the ipad stuff really compliments it.
Any tips or feedback gratefully received :)
cheers,
James

  • Really nicely done! Cool to see hardware playing so nicely with an iPad. Love the vibes

  • Nicely done👍🏼
Also using hardware synth and ipad for effects and mixer duties, fun combo!

  • Thanks guys. I've also got the ipad combined with a Synthstrom Deluge and a modular synth for other jams, but one of my favourite things with this particular setup is it's just a single usb cable making it work. No audio interface or even a usb hub involved. Super powerful combo, but dead simple and completely portable. What a time to be into making music!!

  • It's stuff like this that makes me say "Yeah I really need (want?) to get an OPZ". Damnit. My poor wallet...

I had overlooked the OP-Z previously as a bit of a gimick, but it's got a few really cool features like the master track, the performance track and the step components that means it's super easy to get complex evolving patterns by kind of multiplying a few basic 16 step tracks together. Plus I feel there's something about the timing with the OP-Z and all the pocket operators that makes everything seem just that little bit bouncy and cheeky. It's not just swing I don't think.
