Setup iPad Music Rig Help needed - midi functionality - AUM or Audiobus 3

I'm looking at setting up a guitar rig on my iPad. Want to choose between AUM and Audiobus 3 based on the below.

Setup:
Apps: Bias FX -> Bias Amp 2/Tonestack -> Fiddlicator -> Crystalline -> Loopy HD
Hardware: UR22 MKII -> USB 3 CCK -> iPad 6 and a iRig Blueboard

Needs I want to connect the iRig Blueboard (4 buttons) with the following layouts:
1. 2 buttons to control effects in Bias, 1 button for an effect in the Crystalline App and maybe 1 button for one more setting.
2. control 4 things in LoopyHD

(happy to have this set up as just 1 of the above layouts for now).

Wants To be able to switch between the 2 midi layouts set out above.

    Either will work (and I still think you should get both). But based on Loopy I think you should go with Audiobus if you have to select only one. Audiobus also has slightly better app switching capabilities, especially for IAA apps.

    With regard to the multi-app control of Blueboard - not quite sure about that. I think it might be able to be done with the Blueboard app, or with some help from Mozaic or Streambyter.

    @Janosax uses a Blueboard with Loopy with great success. If you search “Blueboard Loopy” you can find some good things on this site.

    Is there anyway to see what is supported as an IAA vs AU app? I assume from my google that Bias Amp/FX is IAA and not an AU (so the floating window support would be non existant).

    Correct about Bias. Most App Store descriptions will tell you AUv3 vs IAA. Or ask on this forum. Both AUM and Audiobus separate out which is which once you own the app.

    So with AUM how does it handle IAA? From what I saw on youtube there's no shortcut to return to AUM (like in audiobus has the app switching hover which makes it easy) - instead you need to multitask to return back.

    IAA does provide a return to host mechanism but many apps don't make use of it. For those apps that do, if AUM launches them, there will be a floating button that takes you back to AUM.

    Many of us will use Audiobus and AUM for AUM projects that reference IAA/Audiobus-capable apps for state-saving (which includes AUM's state) and the floating palette. It adds very little overhead.

    @espiegel123 Thanks for your reply! That makes sense. I currently have Audiobus 2, and have been using the IAA switcher (the floating palette) and it makes it super easy to jump between the open apps.

    I guess until they make AUv3 guitar apps (at least a big name one like bias/tonestack) I'll stick with Audiobus.

    Was just trying to get my head around AUM's floating windows (which only apply to AUs which I now know haha).
