I’m using LP X only for iPad music. Though it’s not portable like atom, i think it’s one of the best pair for iPad.
Re: Custom Layouts... The X currently has 4 and the Pro (Mk3) has 8.
I also think that at the time of goneKrazy's post only the LPX had been released and his comparison was to the older version of the Pro.
The Pro Mk3 came out a month or two later.
Ah, you're right. That's what I get for looking at an old thread. I have the mk3 too. Gotta say, I love it, but, as with every other programmable controller out there, I really wish they had an ios app. Super annoying to have to configure on a computer.
I just found a describtion to modify the Launchpad
https://cdm.link/2020/09/launchpad-pro-update-with-unquantized-recording-legacy-customizations-more/
Havent tried it yet, just wanted to share. Maybe someone is interested.
Ok.. so which one of you developers is going to simulate these MK3s... on iPad?
Still think Fl Remote is better than my AKAI Fire.. Text, wireless.. etc.
Seem this is what the iPad is made for...
Are the custom modes additional to the default modes of keys and drums?
Hi folks, I finally bought a Launchpad X. I thought I wouldn't use the sequencer of the Pro anyway. Though the Pro has a midi out port which the X lacks...what a bummer - I'd like use it with my Digitakt (because I'm lazy and can't play keyboard...) sooo long story short: Can someone please recommend me a cool USB Midi Hub which can bridge the gap between hardware synths and USB controllers? Or do I just need a USB C adapter to plug my Launpad X into the Digitakt's USB port? Has anyone tried this yet? Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.
You'll need a midi host. Neither device is a host so you cant connect the LPX directly to the digi via USB.
@AlmostAnonymous yes exactly! that's what I meant. Do you know of one that you can recommend?
iPad…
These are often recommended:

This looks very cool:

For my LP mini I have an alternative, the PUC+ from Zivix which has a single 5-pin midi port which can be configured as midi in or out, but which also provides bluetooth midi.
For a similar solution, CME will soon have an USB to bluetooth solution (https://www.cme-pro.com/widi-uhost-what-can-it-do-for-you/) which can be paired with their or others 5-pin-to-bluetooth dongles.
I had to configure the mini so as to turn off Mass Storage Device mode for the usb host to work, depending on the device you may need to do so too.
If your audio interface has midi then you can just use that. I have an audiobox 96 and motu m4. Both have midi in out and can route your controller through to your synth via AUM. Zoom U44 I believe also has this functionality. I believe scarlett 4i4 and behringer umc404 as well.
Edit... If the Digi is class compliant, which I think it is, you don't need a host. Plug them both into your iPad via USB hub, and route your X to it through AUM. If Digi has midi through, which I'm certain it does, you can connect/daisy-chain your synths through it.
That's actually the answer I was hoping for. Yes the Digitakt is class compliant and works as a Audio/Midi Interface, genious! Thanks a lot, I'll try that out asap!
No problem. I hope it works out! Be sure to set your midi channels in AUM.
Will do! I‘ll need a properere powered USB hub though…
I like sabrent hubs on Amazon. They are fairly inexpensive and reliable. Best buy has a 4 port insignia one that's around $30 US if you want to grab one today.
Bought the x. Will sell the mini mk3. Were going to buy the Presonus atom but couldnt find any info about editing. Its for pad drums as I always create just over random drums. Volca drum style and also Euclidean to controller array is just ok. So will def be selling a launchpad mini. Maybe a nanokey ( if I switching custom modes is ok ) should be. Also maybe a fader fox pc12 but will see about that. If euclidean isnt so great then it will maybe be a synth controller.
Whats it like for finger drums. Note I were going to lumbeats apps ( not for finger drums )
Should be cool though.
Remade setup. Not sure about launchpad x. Its Sunday. Can still cancel paypal.
I think it will be worth it if its obviously cool as a dedicated finger drum setup. The stand might be ok.
It will be cool as a finger drum and record sequence/loop setup next to a turntable.
It will be cool it drambo records velocity and the faderfox pc12 is good for p-lock of drum parameters.
It will be cool if its good as keys but the microkey is better for pad keys.
Decided I might keep the nanokey. Just as a keyboard extension but to another synth that dosent need crazy keys.
The volca drum is now usable as before it were out of the way. Will be good for its sound and how iv mapped mononokes. Ripplemaker and a synth like id700. So live music. Theres the option of swiching the volca drum for a volca modular ( only synced manually )
That might be mad. Mononokes. A made ios drum track. Volca modular. Ripplemaker. id700 or other synth. Maybe granular to nanokey.
What a twit. Ordered the launchpad x. Dont really need it. Certainly not buying a stand. It will just bend on this stand. Plus it wobbles. Which is ok for all other gear. Theres not even space to build. Maybe something wood. Its already being sent also.
Might cut down a tree or find a decent log. Then just glue on a flat piece.
You do have a plethora of controllers already…..
I know. Dont even use the launchpad mini. It were for transposing euclidean drums but realised I can record pitch in drambo via knob. Which sounds better. I might just send it back. See if I use the launchpad mini or sell it. Unless the x is good to fingerdrum but maybe its just better to sequence. It were bought thinking Iv made a daw. So would need direct drums but sequencing is ok and the euclidean is kinda cool.
@sigma79 I bought launchpad x a while back because I thought I could make some custom layouts for jamming on the sofa but sold it on because I missed the encoders which just cannot be replaced by light strips like faders can. I also wanted scales but there is no way to save them ready for each song.
That’s why I ended up getting Circuit tracks and using it as a controller. Scratches all of my itches:
Having said all that, I just bought the old LP pro that is boxed and ready to go back and now I’m eyeing an LPX even though I’ve already been there! Madness!
I think these boxes with colourful lights appeal to our inner child. Even if they’re absolutely useless outdoors, if you ever end up (like me) playing an outdoor gig in the middle of the day!
We really should have a mega type thread for controllers, sequencers, and other general hardware people use in their iOS workflows. Right now all of these stuff is scattered in threads usually with unrelated topics.

Thanks Supadom. Launchpad x arrived. Guess I were just buying for pad drums. Gr-16 seems velocity and probably record sequence. Pads arnt as good as I thought. Used a maschine before and could vibrate my arm so that it triggers like a ( Maschine gun ) plus they were gel. Its an upgrade to any controller and I do have a scratch turntable. So might be able to scratch. Make drums. Use iphone as cue points. Id need to make a wood stand so it dosent wobble. Apart from the pro pads probably being better. What controller for ios is best for pads?
Also. When I last used volca drum. Just using as you go. Sometimes you would lose the kick. Maybe a kick from the launchpad with a probablity to knob could work. I think where Iv got a deck. Is the decider.
Cant update the firmware via online components or windows standalone.
I always complain. Then fix.
