Been dudded on an iPad purchase need advice on whether it will still be ok?
It was advertised as a Gen 3 but it is not generation 3 iPad...it is an iPad Pro 9.7 number A1673 with half the RAM and the A9X Processor, not the A10X and 4gig RAM.
The listing clearly stated generation 3 and iPad Pro
So the question is, before I go through the hassle of a Paypal case - will it still be sufficient to run Ravenscroft, AUM Mixer Gospel Keys, Galileo organ, the Lumbeat apps etc etc.
Thanks
Comments
so 38 folks have looked at this and no-one has an opinion on this?
I’d look into the current pricing and availability of the iPad you were looking for and make a determination based on that. PayPal is excellent for consumer protection and dispute resolution in my experience.
Did you contact the seller?
Your gonna want that 4 gigs of ram. I run all the apps you mention very smoothly on a first generation iPad .. but it’s the larger 12.9 with 4gb ram.
Thanks guys - yeah have done that. Still have not heard back. So I am asking if other users of this particular model had any issues with those (or similar) apps.
Following my post above, and some research on model #'s it seems the 9.7 has the same specs as the 12.9 (that I have already) so it looks like it might not be an issue from that perspective. It is from the non-USB C port though and the way I was planning to go with that
ahhh, thanks for that...I read somewhere that the 12.9 1st gen only had the 2 (not the rumoured 4gig - I believe that was an Adobe misquote) - but now after some further research I have read reports that stated it did have 4 gigs....wish Apple would list the RAM spec in the about section hahaha!!
In those eBay cases where something wasn’t as advertised, but could still be useful, you can ask for a partial refund from the seller. If they don’t want to do it send it back. Don’t accept buying one thing but getting something else.
Regardless of whether you keep it or not don’t let it slide, like others are saying. That’s bullshit. I’ve been in disputes on eBay etc and they are incredibly fast to somehow resolve issues.
As to whether those apps will run I don’t have any of them so can’t comment there
(except AUM which is light as a feather)
I personally would try to send it back, it is not that model you wanted in the first place i guess.
A 9.7 iPad Pro is far inferior to gen 3 pro.
It has the 4 year-old processor of the original iPad Pro released in 2015, but only 2GB ram. There are other options that are better if you want a discounted pro. (I would return it and Look for a 10.5 pro).
Thanks guys - I found an app called Lirum Info Lite and when I ran AUM with three of those apps running on the 4gig Pro it showed 1.45 gig ram being used with 933MB free, so perhaps 2gig system might cut it although there would not be much left over.
I'd love to go the 10.5 or even a 2nd gen, but the dollars being asked (out here that is) are a lot higher....Still, the seller has got back to me now and is willing to do a full refund (won't go partial) for item return.....tough decision ahead! I appreciate the input here folks thanks again!
I was checking in to see if I could learn what "dudded" meant.
So... you do have a “4gig Pro”... ? Kinda confused. I guess you have a second device?
And I don’t think your RAM test suggests you would be OK with 2GB total. Your ram app shows only 933mb free out of 4GB, then the unmentioned ram 1.62GB would still be needed and used by system resources... which leaves less than 0.5 GB for AUM if the total iPad ram is only 2GB.
Well I’m on my 1st gen 12.9 right now and both my IOS benchmark apps when I run the test report 4gb ram. I’d stay away from the 3rd gen and IOS 13 right now, I spent days researching a 3rd generation 12.9 for myself as my 1st gen only has 128gb storage and I’m almost out, plus the 6gb of ram and faster processor were tempting, but after reading all the issues with the 3rd gens for musicians .. especially not being able to use my Apogee Duet interface properly .. I bought a new 2nd gen 12.9 with 512gb of storage instead to replace my 1st gen. Only problem is it arrived literally the day after apple unsigned IOS 12.4.1, so I’m stuck on IOS 11. Korg Bluetooth controllers like the Microkey Air and Studio won’t pair anymore on 13
It may be inferior on paper .. but when you can’t reliably run it on your high end interfaces like the RME Babyface Pro or Apogee Duet on the 3rd gen they are worthless .. and that YouTube vid of the guy effortlessly snapping it with two thumbs .. that sealed the (non) deal for me. Course it all depends how your going to use the thing .. obviously there are people digging 3rd gen’s for music production (or acting like they dig it) .. Henny the Biz for example .. One really needs to carefully check their hardware compatibility with a 3rd gen as well as IOS 13 compatibility before taking the plunge. Personally I use both the Duet and Babyface Pro, both the Korg Microkey Air 61 and Studio, and use older apps a lot like the Oberheim iSEM .. so the 3rd gen Pro and IOS 13 are actually inferior for me. I now run a whole living room size studio of classic and modern hardware synths effortlessly on a 2nd gen 10.5 Pro running IOS 11, and work completely ITB the rest of the time on my 1st gen 12.9 running IOS 12 .. all while my 4 desktop PC’s and multiple Dell monitors are unplugged and collecting dust. Just all depends what you like.
Regardless of the iPad performance you got , still it’s not the iPad you bought,

haha, sorry - downunder term, means ripped off or deliberately misled into buying something...as in "it's a dud" - dudded!
Yeah, I agreed with the comments that it was not was originally listed and paid for, so it's going back. Seller has agreed to the full refund.
I am going to go with the same model I have now, iPad Pro 12.9 1st Gen which is handling everything fine. The only reason I was looking at the 9.7 was to try and fit it into some of the new docks I read about here and there, but I think that idea is down the gurgler as well...so I decided to get a duplicate 12.9 Pro 1st Gen. Seller reckons it's in good nick so, yeah that's what I'll do. Reason for the two is so I can run separate live keys work and tracks and keep the other for charts.
I don’t know about any of the iPad pros but I sure did enjoy all of your language, thanks for the needed smile at the end of a tough day. I’m in nj, USA, if you’ve seen the sopranos I live in the area where they filmed a lot of it, so we only have sayings like “the threes of ya’s” and “ayyy.” Ha!
If you only need one for charts why not get a less powerful, but cheaper, model like an Air 2?
@Tim I need the size for the actual reading of them. I can use the smaller screen size if I really have to but the 12.9 makes it so much easier
Even air2 is overkill for that imo. I would suggest cheapest ipad you can find that runs at least ios9. Spects doesent matter for that, but you might want the large screen.
Sorry to resurrect this thread, but a quick question...will the iPad 2019 with 3 gig of ram run AUM Mixer with things like iFretless bass, and ravenscroft piano/Gospel EP's and synths, maybe Soft drummer as well?
I know and older iPad with 2 gig ram would struggle, but with 3 would it be possible? I am using the iPad pro at the mo with 4 gig ram and there does seem to be some left over....
I am getting second one to free up chart duties as well as allow greater control over apps that are running. I have also just started using a Behringer XR 16 so need soemthing a bit bigger than my iPhone to control it as well.
Thanks
I run SoftDrummer and NeoSoul Studio and iFretless and more at the same time in AUM all the time on my iPad 6th Gen.
thanks - is that 2gig ram?
is that 2gig ram or 3?
iPad gen 6 has 2
cool thx!
