    I am currently focused on getting the pitch effect specifically for live guitar notes.
    There is a sound in my head that I need to achieve hence the original question.

    Midi delay using midi scripts is a different beast altogether I find.

    The video that rs2000 showed was great in that regards
    using both a midi note and dischord 4.

    What would be interesting is if a midi script could create arps and/or melodic lines
    in an audio delay for instance which @Skyblazer opened up
    the possibility of in his first comment and @McD was pointing at in terms of
    pattern based playing.

    One could also do that by live looping guitar lines
    and layering harmonies dissonant lines over the top.

    To be able to play one note from a live instrument and acheive rhythmic
    and melodic lines as a delay is even more interesting and if that can
    be achieved combining both midi scripts and a pitch delay plugin then lets
    see if we can make that happen.

    I'm learning a lot by the way and thank you all for your input.

    Edit: Also I just realized, @Gravitas you weren't the one who wanted the audio delay to be synced to the scale either. So that would be even easier to make. Hmm...well it would be pretty cool to "turn any delay into a pitch shifting delay".

    Edit 2: Actually, since the echoes usually bleed together, it would require a bunch of AUM tracks, each with a signal routed into an instance of a delay plugin. Although I could just post the AUM preset with it. And then I could even have it rotate through different delays while pitch shifting.

    When you say any delay, is that for a midi delay plugin or an audio delay plugin???

    If we could set the audio delay to specific notes and
    in sync that would be very interesting indeed.
    I'm using ,'we', because this will be really useful for other musicians
    in the future if they would like to experiment with pitch shifting effects.

    Yes, I'm talking about audio delays. The process to program this would be 99% similar to a MIDI delay, because you're just sending CC values to the pitch shifter, instead of note and velocity values to the synth.

    Does anyone know if there are alternatives to 4Pockets Pitch Shifter? If I start on this, it would be nice to know what my options are. I just bought the 4Pockets app, and it would definitely work. It utilizes a semitone knob and a fine tune ("Detune") knob, so the only challenging feature would be incrementing by frequency. But if there's another app that can do that, I could have it work with both apps. And if not, then it's still possible to do that. You'd have the frequency value converted to two CCs value, one for semi one for fine, calculated based on which two semitones each echo falls between. Somebody else might be willing to help me with that feature if I do the rest.

    Triggering a sequence of notes would be an easy feature to add. And I think MIDI Guitar or Envolver would allow you to use it with a guitar.

    @Gravitas do you also have any interest in the pitch shifter's cousin, the frequency shifter? Frekvens would be the best example, Bandshift also does this, and Objeq is...related. I would have the app perform both functions.

    Ahh, yep, for guitar midi delay isn't as relevant.

    It seems like an envelope follower like Envolver triggering a script that would automate some cc/AU parameters to shift the pitch rhythmically. I'm working on a new version of a midi echo that includes the ability to send cc's per step. I think I will include a way to trigger the echo by a received cc value from something like Envolver.

    I'm not saying this is a relevant idea for your use case. I'm just thinking out loud, and this thread is helping to form ideas.

    @Korakios mention of Harmony 8 reminds me that Harmonizr might also work for your use case. I haven't used it for a long time, but I think that one can even pitch shift via note input. There might be some potential there, again triggered by Envolver. I may give this a look now that I understand better, if I can find some time later today.

    FYI, the MIDI note was only for triggering the synth, you don't need any MIDI to achieve that effect. Just connect your guitar.

    Yes, you can absolutely run it live.

    Actually, for the purpose of building this app, 4Pockets' recent autotune app has a quicker algorithm for pitch shifting, and it has a semitone knob too. I don't know if it colors the sound differently, but I could probably add support for both apps. The regular "Pitch Shifter" app has support for the left and right channel to be different semitones, which would be cool...but it also has a 100ms delay. Which really isn't that much, but both options might be nice.

    For the script I would need to write for the frequency shifter, the pseudocode for version 0.1 would basically be, "On note input, every quarter note (minus the processing delay of the pitch shifter), for a total of two bars, add (knob value) to this variable, and output it to CC, then reset the CC to some value after the last echo." The code for ver. 0.1 might be able to fit in a screenshot. The MIDI doesn't necessarily have to interact with the delay plugin at all. It only has to roughly sync with the delay plugin, or sync with the tempo.

    Also, you wouldn't really be restricted to using it with the pitch shifter or frequency shifter alone. It would allow you to add any effect to any delay. So the distortion increases with every echo, or the cutoff filter increases with every echo, or the detune wobble, etc.

    With the sequencer approach it would get really crazy.

    That's almost fractal.
    Each note that has been delayed or chunk of information be it a CC value or other,
    one simply exchanges one effect being sequenced to another.

    If that makes any difference: The latest Discord 4 update has added pitch shift by MIDI notes.
    You could, for example, sequence a pitch shift melody for Discord in your favorite DAW while you're recording 4-bar audio loops. Adding a sync'able looper (in this case, both MIDI clock and Ableton LINK would work) would give you the live touch.
    If you use Modstep, you can also trigger MIDI clips using MIDI notes e.g. to launch different pitch-shifting melodies beat-synced.
    Also try Audiobus for hosting Discord, Loopy and receiving from a MIDI sequencer.
    Some thought food to try, there are many possible combinations.

    Good call, I forgot about Discord 4. It's a stereo frequency shifter, though it's labeled "Pitch", and it sounds great. So, with the Mozaic script, we could easily have a ping-ponging, scale-locked, frequency shift...synced with the tempo to arrive before each echo. And I thought of another interesting feature. Have the frequency shift occur during the echo, using a ramp LFO in Mozaic. This could also be done, to some extent, using the fine tuning knob in the 4Pockets app, taking it from 0 to 127 to raise the pitch by a semitone across the duration of each echo. And you could also use other LFO shapes.

    So then we're talking about automating any parameter, __ times per echo, with ___ waveform.

    The ___ waveform could be set to randomly change with each echo. If combined with another app I've started writing, you could record a series of automations with the XY pad, and with every echo, it would play a random one, or play what's next in a sequence of automations.

    Eventually, it could probably take input from the guitar's MIDI trigger on one channel, and an external sequencer on another. So you could use a randomization-focused sequencer (Rozeta, Playbeat, etc.) to randomize the sequence in Mozaic.....the random sequence would record from Rozeta to Mozaic during one bar (or one sequence length in general), then it would play in Mozaic during the next, and the end result would basically be the same as it would be without that extra bar in between.

    Then you have the pitch, frequency, or any other parameter, doing a randomized sequence of modulations with each echo, and the random algorithm is determined by the external sequencer.
