miRack videos and/or tutorials needed
Hi all app lovers. Finally had the time to dig in to this app last night, and as with most brave new territory I'm somewhat lost. Lost in a good way!
What are the best patching videos and tutorials to read, watch, ingest? I take it there aren't many specific to miRack just yet so what would be the best to get started (maybe from VCV rack??).
*note - I'm at the "put-this-cable-in-the-CV-hole" level now.
Thanks for any suggestions. Thanks!

i'm not very keen on this guy but he is a very good musician and the video is good.
cheers! @[Deleted User]
This series is great and it's also from a point in time of VCV that's close to from where miRack is forked. I don't know if this is as directly applicable with the drama around the Fundamental modules now, though.
Watching vcvrack videos will provide the guidance needed.
😂🤣😂

Heyyy guyyys!
Thanks all for the suggestions!
I’m a bit lost too .. especially now that the basic modules are gone. I found some MiRack videos with patches I liked .. took screen shots .. then have been trying to build the patch looking at the pictures .. and it’s worked .. that’s how I learned to program my Minimoog in 1974 .. looking at the pictures of patch examples in the book it came with, but now that the basic modules are gone in MiRack I’m lost. For intermediate/advance users obviously they can figure out what modules do what .. but for me with only a background using hardware synths like my minimoog, Jupiter 8, etc., its frustrating not having for instance a module that just says ‘VCF’. I’m hoping those basic modules come back.
If you understand the MiniMoog pretty well, you can abstract out your knowledge to modular. Think of the MiniMoog as a modular whose cords you can't reconnect -- except for the where switches override them. Draw a block diagram of the MiniMoog's sound modules with arrows to show the connections
VCO1 , VCO2, VCO3, VCF, VCA, MIxer
draw blocks for the control signals (control voltages): keyboard voltage, envelope, LFO (is that VCO3 on a minimoog?), mod wheel, pitch bend.
Now, draw arrows from the control blocks to the audio blocks they control.
Now you are looking at your minimoog (which you sound like you understand) as a modular. You can now apply those principals to hooking up mirack or VCV or Moog Model 15 or Audulus modules.
The biggest leap in modular is that most knobs have a corresponding control input so that the control can be provided by a control module (such as a step sequencer or envelope).
Start by hacking together modules that replicate your MiniMoog's signal flow.
Then hack in a couple of step sequencers: one to provide notes and one to provide CV to the filter.
Once you have done that you will find any modular straightforward and the work will be understanding individual modules that aren't straightforward.
I think it might be a good idea to make "Tags" the default view mode in the Add Module browser. I somehow missed the option when I first used miRack, and it's certainly a more useful option for beginners given the lack of a comprehensive "beginner pack" of modules.
Here’s a great new series for beginners by Dean from Electronisounds Audio.. I find they’re very helpful and just the right pace and length to actually absorb.. 👍
Hi E, thanks, yeah that’s what I’m trying to do, I think where I get a bit lost in modern modular is all the weird names of modules not knowing what they do, I know what VCO’s, VCF’s, VCA’s, etc. are, I can stand in front of a Moog System 55 and understand it .. but am just lost with the tons of modules available for the Eurorack format. Even some of the basic modules which I do understand in MiRack/Euro have jack plugs on em which I don’t understand .. yet ..... but this is what’s fun about this .. the challenge .. so onward I go ..
Excellent! Thanks @royor I love this guy. His tutorials are always clear and concise.
Good advice for me as well, as I'm overwhelmed but love it. I just try connections and tweaking on presets so far....
Yeah I didn't know that vcv was like identical so those help! Cheers to MIRACK
So I gotta ask @mifki, is it pronounced "mee rack" like I thought, or is it "my rack"? Maybe "em eye rack"? Or could it be "m'rack"
It’s “mee rack”. But I should specify it somewhere, until then I can’t complain if pronounced other way.
So is your name pronounced meef- key or mif-key? Or other?🤔
Definately check out and support this channel for mirack basics.
Friendly guy and will do tutorials on anything you ask him.
Hi!
If you consider it helpful, I have a collection of miRack patches available at Patchstorage. Most are Templates, including lots of synthesizers with different synthesis methods, drum synthesizers and grooveboxes. They were made as starting points for learning miRack and developing synthesis skills.
