  • is it not possible to import samples via AudioCopy? I would like to truncate samples in TwistedWave and Auria, and copy/load them into Sector.

  • @Phil999 You can use AudioShare, or "Open in" from any other app. Next update will have AudioPaste (general pasteboard) as well.

thanks. I found a way with "Open in". First truncating samples in Audacity (computer), saving the new sample, transferring into FileBrowser (wifi), and finally open into Sector. Good when I'm in the home studio, but I'm glad that I'll be able to do this with AudioPaste and TwistedWave when I'm not in the studio.

There are some good results loading speech or field recordings into Sector. Nice app you've done. Also looking forward for the update that should prevent the clicks.

  • @Phil999 If you're already on your computer, just use iTunes FileSharing to put the soundfile into SECTOR! Works with iTunes, but even easier with iFunBox.

  • @Phill999 I think @j_liljedahl is too classy to tell you to just buy Audioshare but I'm not! Seriously, get it.

  • edited March 2014

oh I would certainly get it, but I already have an audio editor that builds a bridge between desktop and mobile devices, and between apps. This workflow is established, there's no reason for me to change it.

My iPad is attached to an interface, and away from my computer. iFunbox is not a good solution for me, I prefer to transfer samples via wifi.

  • Any updates on the......update? I really wanna try this out but it's a no-go until the clipping issue is addressed. Sounds like the first update will resolve it. Any ETA on that?

Wow, just saw a tweet by @j_liljedahl that for every 10 dollar app he sells, he only gets $3 after Apple gets their cut and the Swedish government theirs. I guess you could argue that everyone here (Sweden) gets full health care no matter how your economy looks like and whatnot. But sheesh, I had no clue the income was THAT low.

  • @hwangman: I can assure you de-clicking is fixed in the update, so grab it while it's still on my featured-by-apple sale :) I'm hoping to submit the update at the end of this week.

@ChrisG: That's right. Setting a good price is hard, too high and nobody buys it, too low and the work doesn't pay off.

This news is VERY exciting. Can't wait!

  • Apologies, but I haven't read through the thread. This has quickly become a favorite app of mine (not very good samples have become very useful).

One request: Can panning ever be added into the equation here? like panning probabilities per-sector? I would love this...

Great to hear (and thanks for responding so quickly)! Does that mean the sale will be over when the update is released?

  • @CalCutta: Yes, I have plans for panning and amplitude probabilities and envelopes per sector. Just need to think it through a lot first :)

@hwangman: The sale will end when the featured-by-apple ends. Which is probably before the update gets released, but I don't know exactly.

  • Just purchased the app. Reviewing the manual now but even w/some basic button pressing, i managed to get a cool sounding glitch beat from the demo sounds. Loving this thing already! Can't wait for the first update....i think this has a ton of potential for ambient tunes.

  • I also think there's some potential.

  • So for the folks that have already tried adding melodic samples, what's your preferred method for getting those samples onto the iPad? Do I have to use iTunes to get sound files uploaded?

  • Mr. Burns voice clasps hands together

    Excellent!

I'm using audioshare, copy the file from whatever app/paste into audioshare/load into sector

  • came across this on YouTube, not sure if it was shared here already, I couldn't find it. It explains how to kind of implement SECTOR nicely, keeping the main beat in place.

@j_liljedahl Not sure if this is a known issue or not...But while Sector is running, and you switch from a warp slot with different warps to an empty warp slot (the 4 available ones on the lower right), Sector very often gets stuck running some warp effect on every single slice until you stop it and press run/play again. I'm guessing if I switch to an empty warp memory slot at the moment some warp effect is triggered, it's that last one that will get stuck running on every slice. It does happen basically all the time if there are warp effects present, so can get a bit messy if juggling things live etc. I'm on Air iOS 7.1.

  • Thanks for mentioning this, ChrisG. I've had the same issue and never remember to bring it up. There are some workarounds I've discovered, but the problem remains.

  • It'so not a bug as such, just the default setting is for sectors to follow what came before. @j_liljedahl is aware and I think is changing back to the default being non-warped next update?

  • From Sector forum -

You put every slot at 0% for all sectors, and then add one WRP shape for only one sector, but still it applies this warp to all sectors! why?

Because, the choice of warp shape should actually be seen as "change warp at this sector" instead of "apply warp for this sector".
When all slots are at 0%, it means: continue with whatever warp is currently active.

To make a sector play normally, put a linear warp shape (00) in one slot and set the probability slider to maximum. This will ensure that each time this sector is played, it will change back to normal un-warped playing.

In the current 1.0 version of SECTOR, the CLR button clears all warp slots to 0% which gives this behavior by default, but I will change it in the next update to automatically add a 100% linear warp shape on each sector, to minimize confusion.

  • Ok thanks! To me it makes more sense having the loop play without anything at all affecting it when I switch to an empty memory slot. The reason a user would switch to an empty slot would be to quickly clear away everything affecting the audio (or to make a new warp "preset" obviously). It's not the end of the world though, just something that's been bugging me a few times when recording.

I want to say that I think it's a very cool feature. Once you understand it you are able to make it work for you in great ways. I was made aware of it only thanks to the update. I was confused at first as well and I also thought it was a bug. It's cool that he is switching it back to the way it was, because I understand how it works now, but maybe a lot of new users will miss out on this great feature. Maybe after the update it will become a bit of a hidden feature.

  • That's right, the current bugfix update (waiting for review) will put back a linear warp at 100% as default (including the empty warp memory slots). Many many users has been confused by this, that's why I change it back. But as you say, @firejan82, I believe many users became aware of this feature only because I changed the defaults. I do try to explain it it the manual though, for the few who reads it :)

On sale. Finally gonna grab this one even though I don't really understand it (yet).

Edit: I'll just get it and see what I can do with it.

  • The 1.0.2 update is now live and fixes a rare crash-on-startup bug, as well as a few minor issues (that nobody even seemed to notice :)
It also changes back to the more intuitive CLR warp behavior where it automatically puts a 100% linear warp shape in the first slot.

  • feature request (more refined than what you and have talked about): a "silent" step for the sequencer.

It would be great to be able to mute a step in the sequencer so that it wouldn't play any sector at all (perhaps a long press or double tap and a little "M" to show it's muted?).
