Got the inspiration from the 1st synth thread. Got all sentimental. Here's my list:
Elka EK44, Boss DR(?), Roland TR-707, Roland XP-50, XP-60, MC-303, MC-505, Yamaha RM1X, Emu E6400, Roland EP-9, Wurlitzer EP-200, Korg electribe AE1, Korg Kaossilator Pro, Kaoss Pad 3, Novation K-Station, AKAI Miniak, Novation XioSynth, X-Station 25, X-Station 49.
Maybe someone could start a guitar thread too? lol

Shouldn't we be listing "dedicated" drum machines? I don't know if it makes sense to include synths (even though they can make drum sounds), otherwise we could all just include all of our hardware from the first synth thread. ;-) (...or maybe I misunderstood the topic?)

At any rate, as far as drums go, the only dedicated equipment I've had is:

    • Roland SPD6 -- lousy onboard sounds, but rugged and serves well as a drum controller.

    • Boss DR-5 -- Like all Roland products, it is rugged. Aside from that, I hated it and was happy to sell it off to someone. It had a crappy, convoluted interface that made using it a chore, and it had lousy sounds, so it didn't seem worth going through all of the trouble to make anything with it. I made exactly "one" song on it the entire time I owned it.

After this, I moved to FL Studio for drums (which I have since moved away from), and and I am now using software exclusively.

  • @Audiojunkie yeah I know. It's hard to be specific. I put Wurlitzer in my list even though it is hardly a synth, just loved it so much I couldn't resist! Also would have been good to stick to analogue but then my list would shrink miserably ;)

  • The original idea was about the synths but I thought I broaden it to drum machine/groovebox category since not all of us had a pleasure to own monsters like Arp or Moog and some people are more into beat making. Ouch, should have included samplers :)

    edit

    Yamaha QX21 (still have)

  • Roland TR-707
    Roland TR-626
    Yamaha RX-11
Alesis SR-16 (think that was it).
    Alesis D4
    DR-550
Various casiotones and organ rhythm boxes over the years.

I often think about getting a dedicated drum machine again (it's been software and samplers for 10-15 years) but seems like most of them either have shitty sounds (for me) or cost more than I want to spend.

  • Korg Trinity+ (the + version had the Prophecy physical modeling synth expansion),

    Roland Juno 106

I did have a drummachine for a while, but can't remember what it was (I do remember it was shit though)

    Roland TB303

    DSI Evolver Desktop

    Novation K-Station

    Elektron Machinedrum

    Elektron Monomachine

Elektron Octatrack (makes an awesome synth)

There's probably a couple I'm forgetting right now, but that's what I can remember off the top of my head :)

  • For pure hardware:

    Roland TR505
    Yamaha RM5
Alesis HR-16 (used this for live jamming with Symonds pads or an Octapad, still have it)

All had weak buttons, used keyboards or pads to play them. Not like that MPC used in the video of the dude with invisible fingers :)

  • Old gear I have and collecting dust:

    Yamaha dx7, roland pad8, roland r8 with most cards. I have 3 simmons drums that I got for cheap, sds8, sds1000, sds9.

Now I use spd-sx, korg wavedrum oriental and I just ordered a drumit five e-drum from 2box.

Dude, Octapad "Pad 8" into an Alesis HR-16. Me too.

I can't believe what good memories you guys have. It would take me days to recall all the one's I had in the 80's-90's.

  • I had mentioned having a Roland XP-50 Music Workstation (keyboard equivalent to the JV-1080 module) with two expansion cards; I acquired a Crate amp to use with it (still have it as well); once had an Akai hardware sequencer (what a dinosaur!); also had a Roland PMA-5 (Personal Music assistant), which I found to be lot of fun to use - but no longer around. Oh, and a home computer!

  • in the early 90's I got a CR-78 and a TR-808. So glad these very old machines are still working.

  • Missed the synth listings. So:

Gone, but not forgotten: Roland Juno 60, Korg MonoPoly, Korg M1R, Roland D550, Ensonics Mirage, Casio VL Tone,

Gathering dust: Korg P3 Piano module

    live in the rack: DX7/E!, MKS-50, S-550, Proteus/1
