How does Audio Evolution Mobile Studio compare to other DAWs in 2019?
It looks like quite a solid DAW but I never tried it out so far. Just saw it on the Tone Boosters website knowing TB is quite a serious quality audio dev.
How does the recent version compare to recent versions of Auria, Cubasis etc?
Anyone using AEMS as their main daw?
Comments
Each DAW has its own strengths and AEM is no different.
I've been partly involved with the development on iOS (and it's been existing long before on Andrd) and here's a short list of what I consider strengths of this DAW:
Thank you for working out that list!
Sounds all pretty good to me! Wondering why AEM isn't discussed more here.
What he said and it sounds pretty good too. It allows for 3 effects directly per audio track, and high mid low Eq knobs and pannng per track. It’s nice that it’s good on iPad & iPhone and you send projects intact from one device to the other. It’s not too bad, very functional overall.
Good question and one I’ve been meaning to ask. In my recent limited experience with AEM I found it more than capable once I worked out how to navigate around. I had problems using Animoog but that could be my fault.
Just made my first track with AEM. Once I got used to its workflow it went well. It's a capable DAW.
I used its its built-in soundfont player and reverb plus the following Auv3s:
Chameleon, Mellowsound, Poison 202, Blackhole and Autony.
I love it for editing. Good interface, solid grid/tempo snapping options, good export options...
The app is cross os/platform so it’s got a few non-iOS concepts, but you’ll figure it out...
I also liked it for editing, but the problem I ran into was that the borders between clips were sometimes not visible enough; if I was making lots of slices, I couldn’t tell where adjacent clips started and stopped. Do you know if they’ve changed this?
I use it on my phone for some editing on audio but I don’t usually use it for any midi stuff
I did not have many adjacent clips in my project nor a lot of slices and for what I needed, I could tell where clips started and stopped. The problem I encountered is that as I had a few short clips, I had to zoom in a lot to be able to move them instead of shortening them. But maybe this happened because I am still learning its workflow.
The project used both MIDI and samples.
I've attached this screenshot.
@rs2000 the sound I get from AEM is the best on iOS to my hearing. I just hope the UI & clip visually get an overhaul. The brown&yellow theme is a bit dull.
Soooo as if I really needed another Daw, lol I bought this today and unlocked the pro version....ummmm am I missing something? I can’t seem to trigger any midi synths from my Akai Mpk Mini, I don’t see much in the preference menu regarding midi, I took a second look at the app description and I noticed I didn’t see any mention of Core Midi, someone please tell me you can use a midi controller with this app????
Yes you can, I have used it with my Korg Microkey. When using a MIDI track, like the one in the screeshot above, tap under the fader to navigate to the channel strip second page. Then the first button on the strip allows the selection of MIDI input. By default it is set to Virtual Keyboard
I remember trying to use the free version a while back and getting a bit lost. Maybe I should try it again. Is there a tutorial somewhere?
What @zvon said, plus make sure you enable track input by hitting the REC button.

There are several here:
