Tip to considerably speed up Synthjacker sampling

If you use Synthjacker the regular way it plays and records the notes live, which can mean that sampling an instrument can take a fairly long time as the app plays through the note range.

However you can make use of the recently added MIDI and audio file workflow to make this process much much quicker:

Create a new Synthjacker template, and then swipe on the template name to save a MIDI file from it (be careful as it's actually way too easy to delete the template doing this!).

Use the Files app to copy that MIDI file to a DAW, be aware that the tempo of the file is 60bpm, Cubasis will set the tempo of the project accordingly but NS2 will not, you will have to set it manually (I haven't tested Auria).

Insert the MIDI into the timeline, then add whatever synth you want on that track, it can be AU or IAA, no matter. As a bonus you can also add any effects you like onto the track for additional sound design.

Mixdown the project, and use the Files app to move that Mixdown into the Audio folder of the Synthjacker app. Then load the audio file into the previously created template, hit record and the samples will be chopped up in a few seconds. Use the Files app to copy them wherever they are needed.

The benefit here is that doing is mixdown is way quicker than waiting for Synthjacker to play through the note range, and you can then alter the synth settings (or replace one synth with another) and do another mixdown in seconds. Once the DAW project is created you can really quickly sample different instruments.

  • Definitely a great tip for VSTs and AUs, thanks. Too bad hardware can't be faster / automated.

  • Presumably you could take this one step further.

Copy said midi file to several tracks in your DAW assign appropriate instruments mix it down and export the stems

    Indeed - great idea!

  • Great tip this! Thanks!

  • Nice work! Thanks for sharing!

This reminds me that I should really look into offline rendering for AUs - I think I read somewhere that it could be possible. That would really rip through the sampling phase...

  • Excellent tip ! Thanks for the share....

  • So if i only have NS2 in my iphone could i still do this process if i wanna sample a preset in Groovebox?
