Alternative to Saturn

I need a good AU saturator. What is the best alternative to FF Saturn (as it is still not available as AU) ?

We have been building just that for the past five months. I think well need another two months before we release it though.

  • Klevgrand ReAmp is my personal favourite, I use it more often than Saturn as it happens. I especially like the option to add fewer harmonics, for more subtle results.

    Instabuy incoming, that.

  • I thought this was a new track posting when I first read the title.

Cool idea, let's write one 😅

What kind of sound do you want to achieve?

    Something like this maybe!

I would like to saturate some frequencies of a bass but not all the frequency range. Maybe 300hz-1khz. I just would like to saturate the attack but keep the sustain untouched

    Oh hell yeah!
    That was kickin some ass!

Two not mentioned are 4pockets Harmonic Exciter and TB ReelBus (tape saturation)

There are plenty of options, not to mention the various amp & cabinet simulators.
    Some things I would try:
Usea modular host like apeMatrix or AUM and load...

    • TB Equalizer: Pick one or two bands in the 300..1k range and set them up as dynamic bands, boosting the level so that the attacks become even more pronounced.
    • For saturation, use one of the many options: JAF collection, Shaper smart audio destroyer, Tb ReelBus, AD FuzzPlus 3, AD Grind Distortion, maybe even Klevgränd Reamp or Stark or DAWCassette.

If you can't avoid using a limiter, make sure the transients remain pronounced enough to enjoy the saturation while the sustains don't.

  • Uranus.

    I'll get my coat.....

Thanks for the trick. I think it is a valid solution

  • FAC Bandit

  • Eventide Mangleverb has an amazing saturator algorithm..I often use it without the reverb section turned up.

Specialty app for low end frequency saturation...
    Klevgrande Knorr
Hard soft and medium boosts and you can graphically sweep it around to find that sweet spot.

Shaper does a positively lovely job of giving grit to base sounds, any sound really. Target unwanted frequencies with an EQ.

Overall saturator JAF collection lots of filter types, two saturation’s tape n tube (mixable), onboard oscillator(s) if you need a drone. Good stuff. Interface 🤷‍♂️

  • I tried a simple buss setup.
Send to Buss, isolate range with hi pass and lo pass filter, bump up attack transients with FAC Transient, add saturation, blend back in with original signal.

When I think about it, distorting the sustains differently than the attacks of bass guitar notes could be an interesting experiment too.
    Crunchy attacks, silky sustains...

Interesting approach with FAC transient. I have also realized that a gate can be used to shorten the saturation time (I wanted a very short saturation time then back to unsaturated time). The gate in ChannelStrip is quite good (use the appropriate release time)

+1 - expensive but truly amazing collection of settings to call up and tweak further.
    Covers almost any use case.

Okay, now I'm super excited! :) That will be an instabuy for me.

Im eagerly waiting for the BlueMangoo Saturator :)

+1 I can't get enough of these tone shaping tools. And the video's that explain what they do and how to manage them.

  • Another cool thing is to put the saturation AFTER the gate. It really gives you a better control on the impulse duration. By the way, I have used the new gate app from Mani Consulting (ex Blue Mangoo) and it works pretty good
