Portable Battery (Bluetooth) Speakers?

I ordered a Zoom U44 for portable jamming or when I don't feel like using my regular audio interface and/or desk. I'm curious about recommendations for portable rechargable speakers with AUX in?

I have a tiny JBL one currently. I've heard good things about their bigger counterparts but wondering what others are using?

There's an insane choice of models out there. Depends on what sound you're looking for.
My preference was good (and slightly exaggerated) bass at low levels but otherwise relatively flat response and out of many models I've listened to, the JBL Charge 2 Plus was the best one.
Bigger models (Charge 3 and above) have more power and volume reserve but less bass at low levels. Really.
IK Multimedia's iLoud speakers get good ratings here too but they're not as portable as the little JBL.

  • Highly recommend the battery powered @ikmultimedia iloud speaker . Nothing else like it

  • I can co-sign the iLoud

  • Minirig 3 slaps real hard

I’m still rocking the original JBL Charge and quite like it. There’s no noticeable latency using aux-in and the sound is clear and balanced. I feel that sound quality in the later models has been compromised in the pursuit of loudness / bass response / ruggedness / water resistancy.

  • Bose soundink mini User here. Have them weekly in use since 3 years or so. Love them!!!

  • Thanks for the recommendations! 👍 Looking at iLoud, but might be too big and expensive for my needs. SoundLink might strike a good balance of price / size. Seems like folks aren't as happy with new JBLs.

Want something that's balanced / neutral in terms of bass, but also want something that actually has bass, heh.

  • Soundlink isn't what I would describe as neutral, but then I don't think any BT speaker is. The Soundlink is definitely fun though, and you can kinda control the bass depending on how close you have it to a wall.

IMO it rivals most small bookshelf style speakers in terms of sound quality.
