Korg Triton and Loopy HD
Hi guys, I am new here and please forgive if it's a silly question, or if it has been asked before. I would like to buy Loopy HD, but first, I want to make sure that this set up works. I am using my Kork Triton, which has amazing sounds. Basically, I would like to connect my Kork through the MIDI cable, using the Camera Connection Kit on my Iphone. My question is.. can I use my Korg's sounds (which are amazing), or I will have to purchase apps for generating sounds (like Korg Module Pro for example) and therefore use my Triton as a MIDI keyboard only? It would be a shame, as my Korg has really amazing sounds.
Thanks!!

If you only buy a MIDI interface then you will only be able to use your Triton as a MIDI keyboard. To use the sounds from your keyboard, you will need an audio interface. There are many to choose from. Some handle both audio and MIDI.
Or, does your model of Triton keyboard have a USB output that includes audio? What is the model?
Man I thought this about the rumoured gadget app for a second from the title
haha
There is a Triton IAP Pack for Korg Module Pro that's then made available inside one of the Gadget Synths, I think. Of course, it's a subset of the Triton Presets with the settings frozen but still. Might be cheaper than the Audio Interface. You can buy a lot of IOS synths for the cost of an audio interface. Korg Synths are usually $15 when the sales hit and $30 otherwise.
@wim thanks for your reply. I am not home now, but yes, it does have a type B ( you know, the type you usually see in printers) usb midi. Does it mean I won’t need the audio interface? Thanks!!
It depends on whether the Triton sends only MIDI over that USB interface, or if it has audio out as well. If it doesn't have audio out over the USB then you will need an audio interface to connect whatever audio-out it does have to your ipad. Or, you can use it as a midi controller and use sounds from apps on your ipad (not the triton). If you can get the model, it should be pretty easy to find the answer and make some recommendations.
Hi @wim , many thanks for your answers. My mistake, it is not a Triton, but a Korg TR88. As I said, it has a usb midi. Many thanks for your trouble!!!
May I ask what you're planning to do?
Use the TR88 as a remote controller?
Or record audio from the TR into Loopy HD?
OK, so you might be able to play midi out from the TR88 over the USB connection. I can't say for sure that it'll be compatible with iOS. If you have the Apple USB 3 Lightning adapter you can try the USB midi into the iPad, and see if the keyboard is recognized by Audiobus or AUM, or any other DAW.
That would give you the ability to play iOS apps via midi, but not to use the TR88's sounds. In order to use the TR88 sounds, you need an audio interface. The TR88 has individual L/R outputs, so an interface that accepts two channel input is best. Others can probably advise on options.
If the USB midi doesn't work then you may want to consider an audio interface that does midi as well.
