  • These two aren’t even competitors if you ask me. AE is more like a streamlined Auria; NS2 is more like Gadget with a linear sequencer.

  • I have both along with most of the other big names. For the way my brain works there’s only NS2 and Caustic for me.

Every other one “gets in the way” at some point. When people start talking about how great this or that app is I think, “what are they talking about?”

But everyone sees, hears and experiences these things differently so it’s not a matter of any one being “better” than the other. It’s all about what works for you.

This, wondering Caustic is not that much popular in this community. Great app.

  • NS2 suits my workflow better in general, but AE has audio tracks, which has been quite helpful at times. Not going to slag on either and both are quite stable for me.

    +1 for Caustic...

  • That's a very tight match so far 😉

  • I think you can advocate for a workflow that requires both products:
NS2 for sequencing synth and drums to an audio file and AEMS to add mic-based recordings in sync with the synths and drums. Polished with very attractively priced ToneBoosters FX sold as IAPs for $2 each (the price I paid at least).

Indeed, it could go either way. Nail-biting.

  • But... but one doesn't even have audio tracks..? Confused, stunned! Sarcastic!

I agree. AE is unfortunately not the ‘beatmaker’ that NS2 is or the audio editor that Auria is.

It’s a shame because it seems powerful and feature packed but there’s just something about it that just doesn’t draw me in. It’s kinda in the N-track territory for me. It’s done nothing wrong but just isn’t ‘it’ for some indescribable reason.

I haven’t bought the iap to get more tracks for AE or really used it at all since I tried it out simply because I guess I have enough Daws , like you said it’s done nothing wrong. I haven’t looked at it for a while, maybe they added features I felt were missing when I first tried it? Idk

I'm not keen on the visual presentation. I'm a bit shallow that way... It's in the same family of graphics as Auria and 4 Pockets. Otherwise, good at what it does and well thought out. Could be a bit more streamlined.

As do I, but I feel compelled to say a few good things about AE.

  • How about AEM vs Cubasis?

That’s a better comparison. I liked AE because it’s streamlined and didn’t load my system down with a bunch of sounds & samples I’d never use. I stopped using it because, when looking at an audio stream, it was too hard to see the lines where one clip stops and the next one starts. That made it difficult to do extensive editing and splicing.

  • I use both at the moment, but if Nano 2 gets audio tracks it will completely replace AEM & AUM in my workflow.

Same goes for me.. these are my 2 favourites. Best GUI and workflow :)
AE offers a lot for it's low price.. I'm not a fan of the GUI but, I purchased it to combine stems and it's fine for that.. NS2 is a sleek looking DAW but does not have audiotracks..
