Anyone know of any high quality long IRs? They would be useful for helping us compare CPU usage of convolution reverb apps and plugins.

First one that came to mind.

There's some classics here for sure.
God's Cab link is down so you know.
It's been down for quite awhile.
7DeadlySins IRs -- this is a large library of cabinet IRs:

There are quite a few posts on the Line6 Helix forum:

@espiegel123
Thank you for the links.
Xmas just got even better.
If you click the link, then go to "free stuff" in the navigation you can download Gods Cab too.
I have it, and a bunch others from these links, in my Dropbox, but I suspect it would be bad to share that widely (as they probably would like to keep track on their own site etc), but if you have problems getting it I could probably share it privately 1-to-1 via DM, and I wouldn't feel totally horrible for doing that.
I found the link for it on the Line 6 forum.
Downloaded it yesterday.
Getting Altispace prepped for it.
Thank you for being thoughtful.
It can be found here with some other free IRs

It would be great to know people's opinions about the quality of the free IRs.
I tried the free (200ms) cabinets from OwnHammer.com and then tried a $30 bundle that
offered 500ms audio files. The difference was profound as the final stage of an AUM Guitar Rig chain. I suspect they would also benefit many audio inputs. They are like EQ presets and
it's useful to take a precise EQ and tweak the settings to match the IR's sound quality.
Based upon the advice of the @Blue_Mangoo videos I have come to the conclusion that $5 spent on an excellent Visual EQ (like their Parametric EQ) it really the most cost effective approach to dialing in a tone. A combo reverb/EQ app can also cover a lot of these use cases. Fabfilter's apps are all variants of EQ scalpels. Their Pro-MB (Multi-band Compressor) is my favorite.
ToneBoosters also makes a great EQ in the high value price range.
IR's are impressive in the longer captures but the biggest headache with IOS is the careful rationing of CPU/RAM resources and we all like more tracks, more apps, richer samples, complex models, etc.
I'm thinking NS2 is still the ideal tool for IOS if you want to push the hardware to it's best uses. And I have even started to learn how to use it.
Anyway, IR's are probably going to be a bit of a dead end because they consume too much resource for a small (if interesting) benefit.
Hopefully, some of the highly experience sound engineering types will weigh in on my sonic ramblings but they do tend to approach the world from studio best practices and IOS is challenging... for that approach a desktop system makes more sense: Tools for Pros. IOS is about bang for the buck and mobility. I really hate cables too.
I disagree with IRs being a dead-end. Rooms with a cabinet or Fiddlicator don't eat up a lot of CPU.
My point is that I think I could duplicate the sound spectrum of that IR in a good EQ and save it as a preset. The bigger IR's do seem to use a lot of resources. It also seems to become yet another file management headache. "Rooms!" is probably the tool I'd use most often since it's AUv3 and I tend to select from the AUv3 list in AUM. My main complaint with IAA's is that they get started and tend to hang around in the background when you decommission them in AUM.
Fiddlicator is really a great (if dated) FX app with added Delay and Reverb features.
You might be able to get close to a cabinet IR with EQ and delay/reverb but not with EQ alone....and one's EQ skills would need to be exceptional to get close to a really good cabinet IR.
There is a reason other than laziness that pros use them. Anyway, that's my opinion.
Here's Seacow Cabs Impulses site.. haven't tried them yet.. seems to be a fair collection though.. British Invasion + American Invasion collections have quite a few in each.

True.
Probably but it's one of those tweaks that are hard to dial in by auditioning dozens of files.
Like choosing a specific shade of green.
I think I'm just getting a bit burned out twiddling knobs. I tuned a family piano this week and found the physicality and clarity of tone refreshing. Tuning out the beat frequencies is very centering.
This thread looked mostly at cab IRs, of which I now have a few from Ownhammer. My question is, what are some good free IRs for room sized reverbs?
@Gavinski demonstrates in his latest AUM tutorial @691 seconds (11:30) how to use THAFKNAR to add reverb as an FX. I had never considered this before and now am on a search for using the app in a way I'd never guessed (I thought it was only for guitar cabs, silly me).

Oh, I love thafknar! It comes with a bunch of nice ones, I really like the ones that guy van saane did.
Well it is a great day, I learned something new before 6:30a.m.! I didn't know there were these IR files at polaron.de but a quick look over there shows I should have RTFM!

A little time on Google will provide lots more information and IRs to try.
