Why do iPad DAW transports not stop at end of songs?

One thing that’s always been a pet peeve working with Cubasis, Auria Pro, or Nanostudio 1/2 is after you reach the end of a song .. the transport just keeps perpetually moving unless you physically hit the play button to stop it. On my computer DAW’s the transports always stop when it reaches the end of the song. Is this some kind of IOS limitation or is that just how the major IOS DAW makers are coding these things. Just curious

  • Ableton plays until infinity, what software are you using?

GB loops at the end of the song playback (maybe because it has sections in its arranger).

I posted on Steinberg forum before to stop playback at the end of the song. When you hit Mixdown, you can see the arranger area gets locked, the Play button gets auto-clicked which means it is scrubbing the arranger behind the scenes to yank out all sounds and it stops at the end of the song mixdown. If they could sense the end of the song and stop at the end of mixdown, they should be able to stop at the end of playback too.

I’ve used everything from Opcode and MOTU in the 80’s up to just about every major modern daw EXCEPT Ableton .. I actually have Ableton but could never really get my head around it. All my computers are in storage right now and I haven’t used them since last spring .. but I have both Cubase and Cockos Reaper on those boxes. Are you sure there isn’t an option in Ableton to stop the transport at the end of the song?

I logged a ticket on Steinberg before to stop playback at the end of the song. Ahh good! Thanks for logging that ticket at Steinberg. Ok so it’s possible to stop playback then in Cubasis .. beats me why they want it to just keep playing and playing and playing .. I mean Cubase itself will stop playing. It’s not a deal breaker by any means .. just annoying as all get outs. I just put a mention of it over at the Cubasis 3 forum .. but of course there are much bigger fish to fry there right now :)

There's an option to do (almost) everything in Ableton, stop when asked is the default @cloudswimmer

MPE is about the only thing that's not yet covered by the always expanding max for live library or diy if someone hasn't built the thing (unlikely)

I haven't touched another daw since 2003 apart from ten minutes in Auria and a few swipes on those nice instant-musician instruments in GarageBand.
