Indeed, thanks for joining and for the depth of answer. Some members are constantly bitter, just ignore their tone. Welcome!
I agree with the Bastard. I personally don't mind subscriptions for things that provide a constantly expanding service. It has to go both directions. Where subscriptions fail is when a developer becomes complacent because they have a steady revenue stream. The upside to the classic model is that the developer is hungry, and needs to iterate and progress to get another wave of sales. Without a constant feed of new content or updates it's just a developer cashing in.
no way
Very interesting app (even on my toy of an iPhone), obviously the midi export makes it a valuable sketch pad to be taken further. Disappointing to see it slagged off here for no apparent reason and reviewed badly on the App Store for a subscription model that hasn't been confirmed or introduced yet, the free version of the App is fully functional.
@JeremyCochoy It is, however, a very hefty download at 1.5Gb. I don't need all the sounds to try it out, the sooner you can sort that out the better I would say. I look forward to further developments in smaller updates and improving my PaTaTa-ing.
My main concern really is this: what is the value proposition of this app? I downloaded the free version and it doesn't really do anything useful for me. The use case is so narrow: how many people are really going to compose using only their voice? Practically none. And even then, the tracking isn't good enough.
Even as a free app this just doesn't seem worth keeping, I'll almost certainly delete it. I'm really not trying to be unduly harsh, or rude, or negative - I'm just wondering who this app is for and also hoping that the developer has thought through the basic utility of this app in depth.
My guess is that there is just no market for the app in its current state - it needs to be a lot more useful for it to gain any traction. This is nothing more than a fancy proof-of-concept.
Thanks you @Philandering_Bastard , @Liquidmantis and @steve99 .
I will do extra hour this week-end to reduce the app size if I have to.
Wish you many good Patatas! 🥔🥔🥔
We are going first for a small update of the app, and then try to solve this monetizing problem. 😅
I will keep an eye on this thread. 👀
your rude attitude is not representative of this forum. The same concepts can be expressed in a polite manner at the exact same price.
@JeremyCochoy welcome to this forum and thank you for your very detailed explanation of your future intentions that you shared with us.
+1
I’ve given it a quick go and like the way it’s laid out, plus it has ghost note overlay in the midi editor.
For some reason I can export a midi file but it comes up as empty when I open it in another program, does anyone else have this?
May God have mercy on your soul.
Another consideration is that with subscription one loses control to some extent. If, say, Blocs Wave releases Supa Dope Trap Beats I - XXVII in succession I can just not buy them. If on the other hand I were to realise that my subscription-based app had netted me 2.3 GB of trap beats over the last three months I wouldn’t be happy. At all.
@GrimLucky Thanks. Bug confirmed and corrected. I also wrote a non regression test to reduce the probability this bug comes back in the future. I will publish the fix alongside the new version that will reduce the size of the app (working on it right now).
That great, thanks for confirming, looking forward to the update.
Hello. I follow up to let you know we fixed the Midi Export, and released a feature that allow you to share your whole Symphonia project with your friends. It might be a good way to start collaborating / remixing ideas.
Here is a link to test this feature (please don't be too hard on me 🙈 ): https://backend.symphonia.app/shared_song/5BC6C640-12F7-48FD-92E5-2C910823F27B
(And yes, we reduced the size of the App in the App Store
)
I'd be interested in the basis for choosing subscriptions - just a hunch I reckon.
Check the numbers on the apps using subscription - looks like a way to sabotage an App - many of them really excellent.
I have no issues with monetising - other than it's an ugly made-up word - I even have a couple of Audio Modelling's outrageously expensive instruments on board.
The problem with subscriptions is that they require a commitment up front - sound unheard. It can take months to fit a new app into a workflow - some will never fit in or are used only rarely. This is why IAPs are preferred - they allow for customisation and choice.
This sounds like a fantastic little gadget - too little - get serious with an ipad unit immediately - should take much.
But I'd really urge you to do some research on the impact of subscriptions on key markets. It can cripple good apps.
How about both?
And let the users pick one
a) It’s highly unlikely that the income from one app will support 2 developers. What happens to the subscription model when the devs realise this and give up?
b) What happens to subscriptions when my old device suddenly gives up the ghost and I can’t afford a new one - I’m still getting charged, right? Or when the app in question gets updated beyond the capability of the device? I no longer get the benefit of updates, but if I cancel the subscriptions, I lose the non core enhancements I have already paid money for.
Symphonia app is very beautiful and elegant - just as it’s cool name! Kudos to the devs. They could even apply for Apple”s design award later on
However there is more work that needs to be done on it. Also needs an iPad version
