Are iOS Producers Looked Down Upon

Comments

  • Not long ago AU wasn't how music was made but by IAA and Audiobus. In that regard I could see why desktop producers would scoff and laugh at us... But even today, looking at the DAWS ranging from Cubasis, BM3, Auria and Garageband, the AU implementation is still a huge mess. I was able to squeeze out a number of tracks I can be proud of over the year using the tools I could afford but going forward I'll be starting and finishing with Logic and will probably say goodbye to the IOS DAW workflow--disclaimer: sketching on the iPad is still very much on board for me.

I sometimes get the feeling that those who use Windows or Mac look down on us iOS producers. I don’t think a lot of them understand what’s out there and how much you can get for so little. Anyone else feeling this?

What specifically gives you this feeling?

I’ve gotten some looks from people when I mention why I bought my iPad, including those “in the biz”. Also had a recent conversation on Reddit with someone shooting down the idea of using iOS professionally.

    Confirmation Bias

  • iOS keeps improving.

Not the kind of thing I want to do full production on but I take my hat off to the people that are.

  • I find it amusing that anyone making music at home nowadays on a computer (or iOS) is considered a “producer”. You might be creating music but you’re no producer.
I guess I’m old school because a producer is someone like George Martin (pick your favorite old school producer) that produces in a studio. The word has been hijacked IMHO.

The cats definitely prefer the days when I used to produce on the PC and they could screw me up by walking on the keyboard.

I remember when a DJ was just someone who played other peoples records on the radio. Eh, wordz...

Not really? I posted this because I’ve experienced it, I didn’t have a preconceived notion that it happened. It happened which is what told me it happened lol

  • There is one thing that I have found with all creatives.

We put ourselves down quicker than anyone else could ever do.

    Ask yourself this.

    Are you creating?

    Then carry on.

Most people quit at the first hurdle.

  • People are generally shocked at how powerful iOS is at music stuff whenever I let them have a play.

I don’t read any other forums lately and have quit all music production places on Reddit, Fakebook etc to protect my sanity
