Will IOS 7.1 really bring stability in audio performance?
Right now i am using an Ipad 2 with IOS 6.1.3. I find it stable but the problem is that the CPU is not powerful enough, when recording something internally from one app to another i will get pops and clicks which will ruin the recording.
So i am considering selling the Ipad 2 and buying an Ipad Air. But since that would require me to switch to IOS 7, i have no idea what kind of new territory in terms of bugs and performance i might enter. Many of the apps i use have not been upgraded for IOS7, and from what i have read some apps that runs well on IOS6 maybe won't do that in IOS7.
What more is the aspect of IOS7 itself, i am reading about people having performance issues with pops and clicks! What is the purpose of a more powerful Ipad if the software will generate the same problems as my old Ipad 2??
People is talking about IOS 7.1 will fix this, but have anyone actual proof of this? Maybe it will be a nightmare continued due to some basic change in IOS7? Maybe the people who stayed with IOS6 will be the lucky ones in terms of stability?
What's you thoughts on this?

I think what most people are reporting are either slight issues or isolated incidents due to their app configuration. There are no major systemic issues AFAIK apart from maybe graphic performance which I hardly notice in use. The pops and clicks people report are almost definitely due to people using more CPU/ram taxing app configurations on their new iPads. I've had ipad 2, 4 and air, and I noticed gradually improved handling thanks to improved hardware. I personally would need to be physically forced to return my ipad air to go back to ipad4 running ios6 let alone going all the way back to gen 2 with due respect to all current ipad 1 and 2 users. Before we know it we'll all be drooling all over the next ipad release which unavoidably will bring its own set of issues with ios 8 but at least it will be able to handle audiobus 2 without problems unlike its less capable sister Air.
Simply because of impatience i guess... Since i already are having the pops and clicks when recording on the Ipad 2, i want to find a solution. I guess Ipad Air and IOS 7.04 would not be smart in that case.
supadom, if you have an Ipad Air. Can you know if a configuration like this is possible without major troubles:
Audiobus connects 3 Apps.
A midi generator like Sugar Bytes Thesys
A synth like Propellerheads Thor in polyphonic mode that receives midi data
A audio file recorder like Audioshare / Loopy that receives Thor audio output
And be able to record to a .wav file while tweaking thor in realtime, and adjusting the midi generator without any audible glitches.

Whatever you do you'll be up against consumerist market and an upward spiral of better apps requiring more power therefore better hardware. I find it is very hard to stay on old hardware because it just can't cope with the updates. When I got my android phone 3 years ago I thought it will last me years as a backup phone. I just got it out as my new phone was sent to repair and I find it absolutely rubbish, simply not coping with the new generation of apps are currently around. I ended up dusting my old monochromatic screened Nokia!
Apple and the developers keep moving forward and we need to move with them if we want to keep using ios for music, resistance is futile. It's an avalanche. This system as been in development since the industrial revolution. Sorry for the rant![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)

Last night I had a jam with:
Xynthesizer triggering isem running alongside seekbeats and sunrizer with sugar bytes turnado in the effect slot and mt daw recording the session. No pops or clicks and all running midi synced like a clockwork. Here's the file, excuse the clock ups and the lengthy and boring tune. Just as a demo
I've also run other, heavier configurations in the past, this is one of them and I'd does hiccup but there's no major pops and cracks even with latency set to 256.
Hope this helps in your decision.
Hey. It seems like it works OK, and it would be enough for my basic requirements. Hiccups are not a big deal as it probably won't be recorded into the wav file.
Multitrack DAW seems like a good lightweight app also! Thanks.
I have an Air now, and used to have a 3. The level of performance is light years beyond what I was used to, I've had no iOS7 problems when it comes to audio. Safari crashes occasionally, though!

Is there any problem using Beep Street´s Impaktor since the Ipad Air has 2 microphones?? Does it work as normal? I asked the developer but i never received an answer (probably busy developing cool stuff).
No problems with Impaktor at all.

Actually, It kind of depends on finances more than moving ahead. There will be many advances indeed but I can do so much with the set up that I am currently have that I will not run out of excellent possibilities to make quality music with it. Would I like to move to an ipad air right now? Yes I would. Can I really afford to right now? No not really. Still my possibilities remain endless already.
It is why I moved into the IOS realm from windoz after all. In fact I still use my windows set up as well as my hardware set up even more now that I have an ipad mini to interact with it, making for even more musical mayhem!!!
I have not encountered any problems that prevent me from making music. The internet ios7 panic has not turned out to be of any consequence from my experience, everything has been fine.
I made plenty of reason tracks on my pentium 2 laptop (saving to floppy drives) at one time, if you want to make music you will.
@Aiopod: also no Audioproblems at all here, IpadAir with ios 7. Running Loopy and Noatikl or Diff. Drummer or Stria through Turnado or Effectrix in Audiobus, with output Auria (using also Saturnplug), while having Thesys running seperately. Very smooth running!
Good luck with your decision!

Impaktor used to work perfectly on my 1st gen Mini using internal speakers & at full volume, however, my retina mini always double triggers, absolutely fine with headphones, as expected really, but I do miss being able to use the internal speakers.
