  • No restrictions on what you use for your track @slicetwo . Mostly looking for exclusive tracks for this release.

I could be down. Is the idea that it's an iOS only comp or can we just write it with whatever we want?

  • Definitely @Xsyst , the free option was for a non benefit compilation. I’ve usually put the comps at $5 with the option to donate more if the listener wants to

We could make it a benefit compilation or just for fun. We can see what the rest of those interested want to do and then decide.

Either way we go: put it on Bandcamp for free / name your price / or a set price.

Any genre is welcome / no track will be rejected / I can find someone to master it unless someone here wants to / I can handle the cover art or we can have multiple people submit art and we can pick one

We’ll figure out deadline etc later if we decide to move forward

    @Xsyst said:
Proposed Cause: Australian fires natural disaster.

I would vote for set a price.
    A low price with options.

Free is great but goes against the reason for the effort.
I mean, if it’s free, why not just a SoundCloud/YouTube list.
Maybe to raise awareness, but it already has plenty of attention.

    It takes money to help
    Just a thought.

Wanted to check with everyone to see if it’s ok if I reached out to my contacts [bands that joined former benefit comps] and see if they want to join. My thinking is the more people join we can reach a little farther

    Good idea.

I'll put out a request via my contacts and see
if any of them would be interested in joining in.

I'm also writing a new track specifically for this.

  • Awesome @Gravitas ! Thanks for the support. Can I and should I change the thread title to Australian Fire Benefit comp?

    @iOSTRAKON

What is the timeframe on this, and how will you collect submissions?

  • @iOSTRAKON

Yes, it would be more appropriate.

We can put out other Audiobus Compilations in the future.

    This one is very specific.

  • @iOSTRAKON - This still happening?

  • Definitely @YourJunk - it’s going to take some time for everyone to get their tracks ready of course. I will update the original post here soon with any and all guidelines for the compilation

  • @iOSTRAKON

    Suggestion for album title,

    'Songlines', ???

  • @Gravitas - it will be the next in que of volume we’ve released. Probably Digital Recovery Part 15
It will be an “Artist Organized Benefit for Australia”

Song titles are completely up to each individual artist.
Already starting on album cover ideas

  • @iOSTRAKON

My apologies, the title should've been singular
rather than plural as in 'Songline', or dreaming track.

    Cool.

    Really liking the album cover.

  • sorry @Gravitas / I actually misread your comment about the songline part. My brain must’ve glitched out. I put the guidelines in the OP. Have a good day

  • @iOSTRAKON

    Oh cool.

    March???

Mine will be finished by the end of next week.

    I noticed ,'exclusive track',...

I won't be including it if it's exclusive.

  • I’m recording few tracks in these days. The best one will be for this project. I’m really honored to be in. Thanks @iOSTRAKON

  • I'm in! Great idea and lovely start on the album cover. Thanks for organizing this @iOSTRAKON !

Yeah, @iOSTRAKON, when you say exclusive, what exactly do you mean?

  • @Gravitas & @YourJunk

A new track that hasn’t been released before. Something specific for this release to make it unique. Of course, each artist has all rights to their songs and can do whatever they want with them.

  • Glad you can join, sorry about the confusion. I’ll add a note to that guideline

  • @iOSTRAKON

    Thank you for the clarification.
Though I know your heart is in a
good place ,'exclusive', is not for me.

I was about to ask some heavyweight people that I know.
They have contracts that they need to uphold.
Exclusive means that they will be unable to perform
on the track I have written.
    Nothing personal.

So in needing to find balance I will release
the current track that I have written
under my own name and Bandcamp
and I will reference the Audiobus Forum
and what's going on in Australia, Africa, Amazon and Siberia.

    Climate change is not exclusive.

    It affects us all.

  • Excellent Idea 😁👍 How about 2 albums ? One priced at £1 / 1$ with x amount of tracks and a second at £5/ $5 with as many tracks +bonus tracks/remixes and a couple of continuous DJ mixes 🤔 I’d be up for submitting a track and having a go at putting a mix together of the albums final content

If you read, it sounds like he doesn’t actually mean “exclusive”. It means it’s a new track that was initially released on this compilation. It can still be performed and released elsewhere.

  • @YourJunk

I read it the same way you did and I read the surrounding context.

    My response is there.

Thank you for highlighting it for me.

  • @Gravitas - I’m just looking for a new song submissions. I know heavy hitters as well and this way we don’t end up getting a bunch of already listened to tracks by their fans. It makes to where people want to support the cause and hear some new music. Makes it special.

As I said, every artist can do whatever they want with their tracks (before/during/after). They have complete ownership.

Basically - exclusive track = make something new 🙂

  • I reworded the guidelines to remove any confusion @Gravitas

    Now reads

    • create a new track or remix (this is to make a unique comp for this benefit / no older or previously released tracks are preferred)
  • @iOSTRAKON

I'll reconsider now that you've reworded the original post.

    Thank you for the clarification.

I didn't see this one until now.

    Exclusive to me means exclusive.

It means that the track is only permitted
to be released via the one company
which normally means that the company
will have full control of said work/s etc, etc,
    not a new track.

Rewording it makes it far more inclusive.

Artists who have contractual agreements elsewhere
can still honour them and join in and it also furthers
    the cause much more.

    🙂

  • I hear ya, I know that bands tied to labels have a hard time joining compilations due to contractual reasons.

    Hope you can join, @Gravitas
