For me, it’s the power of instrument & effects racks, easy to create powerful custom chains ..
The fact that Ableton is so widespread and heavily adopted - Gadget, Groovebox and other iOS apps export ableton projects. There are so many great iOS tools for directly interfacing with Ableton - Touchable Pro = one such example.
The ease of working with samples - freeze + flatten to quickly convert VST output to infinitely malleable sample chops. Time stretching is also top notch, making it painless to work my iPad made loops into ableton projects.
The power of M4L midi/audio effects and instruments.
The excellent integration with external HW, CV tools , etc ...
And last but not least, the Ableton factory instruments & effects are some of the best in the business - only competition is maybe Logic and FL Studio , though I find Ableton’s easier to work with due to the unified UI .. Some people find the UI boring, I find it efficient and logical. Nothing in the way or distracting, just the info you need to see in a very clean and readable format.
Sold everything I didn’t use much , bought push 2, happy Still try to learn it and compare the integration with Bitwig ...
Oh wow, now if that isn't a great germ man!
Thanks @drez as well.
I’ve been using BM3 to compose, and to record loops from hardware. It’s perfect for this, but for putting the parts together on a timeline, I find it’s a bit of a pain. I still prefer GarageBand for that.
On the Mac, if I want to record something fast, Ableton is amazing. Even the Lite version (which I have) is way better than Logic for just getting something down, if only for the fast input selection and external midi sync.
Now, if BM3 ever makes it to the Mac…
Yeah I need to have a clear out, I’m rubbish at selling things though.
In typical kinkujin fashion, I went whole hog on Ableton. Am struggling to get it set up with Komplete now. But, so far I'm liking it and the Push integration (well, yeah obviously) is way cool. 2020 is looking quite exciting.
Oh and @RUST( i )K I got the Ableton Suite ver 9 on ebay, quite reasonable as I didn't need the latest and the greatest.
Its value is what you make of it, if ypu want the libraries then it is unbeatable, if you dont then it is pointless and pricey, there are plenty of cheaper software samplers available.
