See track view when recording guitar in Garageband

Is it possible to see the tracks /regions when recording electric guitar in Garageband, rather than a big picture of the amp? Same when recording audio - I want to view the tracks, not a picture of a mic, if possible!

Is that an option?

  • I don’t think so. It’s even worse when recording into cells in the grid view, where you actually need to see what’s going on.

  • I don’t think so either. Yuk. For someone who has used desktop DAWs for many years this is alien. Like I’m recording blind. Seems like an odd way to design things.

I’d like to try to get my head around it, as I like 90% of GB and it would be a shame to reject it because of this.

  • Just try to ignore it. It works for me, most of the time :)

  • You need a multichannel interface, and turn multitrack recording on,in the settings. Then just record into one track. Pete Johns has some tutorials on his channel.

So my iRig Pro I/o won’t work. But thanks for the info. I’ll have a look at Pete Johns stuff. I love the fact GB “just works”.

Does this stop the giant amp appearing?

  • If you have second device and use the Jam Session, you can see everything laid out while recording on the second device. A pain for sure. But it works.

  • This is why I got iPad Pro 12.9. GB’s resolution allows you to see the tracks while recording.

It’s a shame they’ve stopped developing the core app though. They are just content with quarterly sound packs now.
