@MrBlaschke @wim @McD Also, any guides for someone who understands fundamentals but doesn't know which programming language to stick to - (I've made simple assignment scripts but not full apps)
(C, Java, and now Python,iOS Shortcuts, and hopefully Swift once my Mac Mini arrives).

When do you decide to script something, vs actually program it into an app?

Sigh. A few years ago now, I seriously considered expanding my inadequate programming skills enough to code a real AU MIDI recorder/looper, so badly could I see the need for one. Then came Photon and Atom, not perfect, but with enough promise that I thought they'd fill that need. Unfortunately, they both fizzled, nothing else has come along, and by now I'm pretty sure I could have published something that worked well.

Yesterday, I heard the sad news that Loopy Pro isn't planned to have MIDI looping on initial release. Michael has promised he'll add it in a 1.1 release, so that's some consolation. But, just the fact that it wasn't considered as equally important from the beginning, and that no other developers can seem to be convinced of the usefulness, has me seriously considering this once more. Sadly though, the gap between my skill and what is needed is huge.

Anyway, back to your question: There is a GIANT difference between scripting in something like Mozaic or StreamByter and in developing an application from scratch. It's not even an order of magnitude. It's at least two orders of magnitude - at least 100x the work, probably more like 10,000x the work. Perhaps there is the opportunity with an app to make some money with it, but in the iOS ecosphere, apparently the ROI is too insignificant to include as a reason.

To me, the only reasons to develop an app are:

    • If it just isn't going to happen any other way and you want it bad enough
    • You're an experienced programmer so it won't take you as long as it might someone like me
    • You just want to learn
    • Your idea seems so good to you that you just won't have any peace until you get it out of your head
    • It makes you feel great to think about the satisfaction it will bring to people

I dunno if any of that helps. Sorry, I'm a jaded old fart now, and you're a student. If you have any yearning to get into that world, you should go for it! Trying shit is the only way to find out what your real "thing" is in life. You might just find it's totally for you.

Well - you learn to choose the best/easiest way when you get comfortable in thinking in logical steps. And even more if you know several languages and their advantages/disadvantages.

I see „scripting“ as something that is quick, flexible and does not need an own UI essentially.
Also scripting is some kind of „blueprint“ for a maybe following „app“.

Sometimes a script is way more comfortable/usable as a full fledged app...

And starting something as a script and finishing as an app is always a good training. The logics/outcome should be identical - either way.

Thanks for the guidance. I'll work on scripting during this break, as it's pretty intuitive. Just gotta learn the syntax's and dig through previous projects.

Excellent points. Thanks for taking your time to respond. I saw your other thread about the Mac Pro. Very inspiring. Gonna get myself in order and finish the projects I'm working on.

  • I almost always buy any app with lots of support/videos.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • For some reason the 808 pack won’t unlock.

Has this been fixed? I’ve been holding off on updating case of something like this.

  • @Ziggysane: no, it's still doing it...

  • Drums, but not before AUv3 multi output.

  • Pure genius with the cross grade update!!! You guys are the best

  • So how does the cross grade work?

  • Update the apps open bassalicous 2 or fm times and hit the cross grade button then go to pure synth and install the iaps that simple

  • Pure Synth Platinum is amazing! I use it on everything I do. The way @GospelMusicians put this and the rest of their apps together is hands down my favorite. So well thought out and amazing sounds.

    Nice

  • How about AuMFX? SynthMaster One does it so well...

  • Does the crossgrade for fm only appear when you buy the iap in the fm app?

I was going to ask @GospelMusicians the same, but I think the answer is yes as it refers to the FM TiNES Desktop Expansion

  • @GospelMusicians thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having issues with Pure Synth Platinum inside Cubasis 3 and also inside GarageBand after latest update, it was rock solid before but I’m having major issues now. Seems to work fine as a stand alone and with AUM , but having issues loading in Cubasis 3 and when it does load it doesn’t produce sound, is anyone else having issues in CB3 with Pure Synth Platinum?
