Woooooo, UltraTap is silly good! Didn’t realize it covers so damn much territory!
These Eventide AUv3 hit the sweet spot every time for me in terms of brilliant DSP meets streamlined UX!
Just got FAC Alteza the other day and actually love it. I also love Toneboosters Reverb. I’m still interested in Blackhole though.
Can someone who has all three please comment if Blackhole offers something significantly unique compared to Toonboosters Reverb & FAC Alteza?
I'm with @skiphunt
I bought Blackhole and UltraTap because this was too good an offer to pass up, only played with them for 10 minutes so far but both seem to be extremely good and offer way more than anything else I have in the same categories. I don't have Toneboosters Reverb or FAC Alteza though I'm afraid.
I bought Blackhole today and compared it with FAC Alteza and was disappointed with it. There was not enough difference to me with the sound of long ambiences and I preferred the sound of Alteza, plus it has the pitch shifting option. I requested a refund for the Eventide.
i bought fac alteza too and i love it... don’t have tb but i have a dozen others... from now on i’ll be using alteza and blackhole on pretty much everything... as well as bleass and kleverb for more natural stuff... that’s all i need, with black hole and alteza i can finally say i have every kinda reverb 🤣 i’ll get the pro r when it goes on sale just cuz of the video i watched earlier but then that’s really more than i’ll ever need.
but to your point.. fac alteza init patch literally makes everything sound 100x better right away with no effort.. like the zeeon init patch for example with the alteza init patch...sheeesh!!! alteza is an instant make everything amazing plug in... its probably my fav reverb ... blackhole takes a little more work imo because it’s so vast, not saying alteza isn’t but blackhole just has a huge reverb that doesn’t need shimmer to be huge... there a couple presets that instantly transform everything i’ve tried into useable ambient monsters that i don’t know alteza could hit as easily... i say at this price you’ll be mad if you pass it up, it you want huge droney reverb or even smaller more confined ones that are still able to be big
To me, Blackhole just completely blows me away at what it does to sound, vocals, or guitar. Had an acoustic guitar playing through it and just blew my mind i could get this quality sound on my ipad!
I also have Tonebooster reverb and it is amazing but different.
Alteza is truly special! I use it on every single synth preset! 😳it’s like all synths should pay for Alteza’s code and have this awesome effect onboard!
Each is special in their own way!
At this ridiculous sweet low price total no brainer!❤️
Thanks for the detailed feedback! (Pun intended)
Well, it’s on sale for a few days. Gonna think about it. Just don’t want to wait too long and have them run out of stock before the sale is over.
another thought.. so far i’ve used alteza on single instruments, one synth at a time running thru it... with blackhole i’ve ran the whole damn mix thru “ biggest reverb evar” preset and just been like wow this tracks finished lol... in altezas defense i haven’t tried it on the master bus yet tho
Hell yeah! Everybody get everything and lets go crazy

I got ultratap a while go, at full price, becouse I had to pick one from the legendary brand, but I said ill be back...
So Im back and now its not so much what to get, but what NOT to get!
This is a great sale, still when you add it all together, its not cheap, but I want all and I know a lot of you guys want all to, so, my question is
what wouldnt you buy?
Btw. love ultratap so much, definately dont not buy that one
Sorry, but I have to say that to ask a refund for the reasons you said it’s a bit unfair. There are tons of demo on YT and so you could have had a very clear idea about Blackhole. The fact that is too similar to Alteza don’t justify your refund request IMHO as we know it’s a problem for the devs, and Eventide doesn’t deserve it. Just my two cents. Cheers
As an FYI, devs get penalized by Apple for refunds. I get that it may not be greater than something you already have, but I’d personally say to reserve refunds for actual issues with apps.
I haven't got got FAC Alteza, but I've got the Toneboosters Reverb and was also a bit concerned about overlap. However Mitch's vid finally kicked me off the fence:
This one has just sold me MicroPitch as well:
I own Alteza, Blackhole and TB Reverb, those are actually the only three I`m using (Having shimmer, Zero reverb, Bleass,...too)
Alteza and blackhole... same type, different flavour. The Blackhole algorrithm sounds more "refined", master quality I`ll call it.
Alteza shin on individual instruments specially synths, Blackhole would be my firt choice for Master bus, vocals, acoustic instruments...
I was thinking about the same thing but bought blackhole 10 min ago and wow, as a guitar player I can say its much more intuitive to fiddle with while playing, TB sounds great but just opening it makes me want to sit down and you know do some “mixing” and comparing AB and oh let me just put some eq here, maybe some barricade would be nice and so on while guitar strings rust away
Blackhole made me play straight away, ms after It downloaded, my cigarette is done Im going back to playing!
I definitely am loving Alteza on my guitar, from just simple/basic colourful reverb sounds through to evolving space epics 😁
Yeah, I've always been looking for that Robin Guthrie sound for my guitar, so putting the kettle on and grabbing Blackhole now. I'll also be grabbing MicroPitch, as that'll compliment it nicely:
Curious about combining Kosmonaut and Black Hole. Later tonight, gonna fly me to the moon.
I'd say that you need 4 more reverbs just to make your collection nice and symmetrical 😉
Yes absolutely and you also need FAC Alteza
To me, Blackhole is about all the different extremes of smooth, impossibly dense reverb tails (impossibly devoid of grainy, discrete transients.) It's obviously phenomenal at enormous spaces. But that's just the start. It's just as fantastic at the other extreme: ridiculously tiny spaces (where the reverb gets metallic). And then, you get to control the shape of the tails like putty, including in reverse (think swells). AFAIK, the sound's spectrum remains very close to the original sound at different (Gravity and Size) settings. What really knocks the ball out of the park for me is that you get to explore all that with two main knobs: Gravity (tail shape) and Size. After a few minutes wrapping your head around the 'impossible' things those two knobs do, it's extremely intuitive, and all sweet spots.
If sculpting dense, hifi reverb tails like putty appeals to you, Blackhole is as good and easy to use as it gets.
On some settings, Alteza does get huge and thick too. But to me it sounds much more colored and lofi (not in a bad way, just very different). Toneboosters Reverb is hifi like Blackhole. But it's not as focused on extreme (enormous or microscopic) spaces as Blackhole. And for the sounds where Alteza or Toneboosters can get close to Blackhole, you have to dig hard for those sweet spots.
To be honest, I find the 3 to complement each other quite well.
Toneboosters: hifi; widest range of sounds; go to for 'natural' spaces (with the option to push in all sorts of creative directions.)
Alteza: more coloured and gritty; go to for experimentation with thick, inspiring delay/reverb/pitch shift hybrids
Blackhole: hifi; focused on impossible spaces; go to for impossibly dense reverb tails you can easily sculpt like putty.
Hmm... teetering on the fence for sure. The video from Mitch where he’s warping his vocal with Blackhole... wow!
Heck, that's quite a pitch 😁 in thinking about the spring too though 😬
Blackhole is great for reverb tails. Put a synth sound into it. Sample the tail (100% wet). Resample it into something like a granular synth, or synthscaper. Or chop it up with Brambos' trance gate.
Also struggling with idea that distortion on MangledVerb is weak. I guess it depends upon what you want, but for that modern Ben Frost/Tim Hecker sound it's pretty phenomenal. I've had so much fun with that thing.
@ohwell sums it up for me as well. I'd agree with everything he says there.
curious if anyone is making techno or similar electronic music and find that any of the Eventide effects are must have?
Essential - dunno - but I get sounds out of MangledVerb that I would struggle with to get anywhere else, I find Ultratap endlessly inspiring and blackhole is my go to for reverb tails
I also like QVox a lot. Check out Audiodabbler's video for that one.
