DAW that can work from an External HDD

My iPad Pro 12.9" has only 32GB of storage space. It's already very limited for samples and sounds, bus it's really useless when I want to use it as a DAW.

Recently I discovered that 2 apps I have (Pure Synth Platinum and Neo Soul Keys) can stream from an SSD drive attached to the Lightening port. I bought a 1TB SanDisk SSD drive to test this and I was happy to discover that I could offload 10GB of samples to the disk without problems.

As of now I have Beatmaker 3 and Audio Evolution Mobile Studio, but I'm open to new acquisitions. I work both with MIDI (60% AU + 30% IAA + 10% External Synth) and Audio (mono/stereo 48kHz tracks).

Now I'm thinking if exists any DAW that can work directly on the external disk. Can you suggest any DAW that can do this?

  • Atm the only one I know of is GarageBand, if there are others I don’t know about them yet.

  • I know Rim of WaveMachine Labs is getting an Auria Pro update ready and using an external HDD is one feature that has been requested for literally years.

I don't know if the new Auria version will have hard drive support but if it does, along with everything it already has, it will be incredible. Keep an eye out for the update...

  • Thank you for the heads up, I'll drop a message to Rim asking if Auria Pro is the solution to my problem!
