  • On a basic level my air 2 seems to drain fast.

I’m running a time test now with pure acid stand-alone running on full charge :-)

Might do the same with pro 12.9 1st gen, my iPads are pretty much optimised for music prod, background services etc.

Must be something wrong with my air 2 because the battery really does drain fast.

    :-(

I don’t know how much you know about things to avoid and things to do to best manage battery life. I don’t want to toss out a bunch of suggestions that you already are aware of. I also don’t know if you’re saying this about your Air 2 in comparison to other devices. If you would like help and suggestions about battery life, then I’m sure you will get lots if you ask. Of course, it could just be that your battery has reached its end of life. It does happen. But at least as likely there are other, correctable, causes.

Ahh, OK, so you know what you're doing then. yep, prolly your Air 2 battery is just shot. Not surprising. What I'm surprised at is how long mine has held up.

    Sorry to hear that. :/

  • The fact that for the last couple years you were able to get the iPad for $329 new is pretty amazing. Each year they've added more features yet kept the price the same ..added apple pencil/smart keyboard support, A10 chip, and increased screen to 10.2". All day battery life too. AND it's often on sale for $250.

If she's just getting into iOS and 'doesn't want to break the bank' it's a no brainer. plus, she WILL need an extra few hundred bucks to spend on apps. At least.

    Per month.

The standard new 32GB "iPad" price of $329 seems so cheap considering my 32GB Air 1 cost $600. And they're currently discounted to $279 at Best Buy.

Look how low the 329$ iPad performs on benchmark vs the 400$ mini.

If you are not a techy, benchmark will show how much power the iPad as vs another model. Very important.

Not necessarily for music apps though. There’s more to the equation than pure CPU performance. It can be a useful indicator though if taken in context.

It is not the whole picture bug a big part of it.

  • Currently (in the USA) Walmart . com has the 7th Gen iPad 32GB (the regular iPad model) for $279.

I, personally, would get that over anything used.

Most musicians will find a 32 GB or even a 64 GB iPad a pain to deal with due to the limited storage ... particularly if you do sampling or work on numerous projects at once.

Bestbuy . com has the 128GB 7th Gen on sale for $359.... $80 more.

I do wish I had a 128GB iPad.... But with the money I saved I got a case, Lightning to USB Adapter, Midi Controller, Apple Pencil, and a bunch of Apps.

I just don't use Apps that take up a lot of storage for samples. I also off-load Apps I don't use often.

For me, designing synth sounds, and live playing, is what I enjoy most. So the 32GB works good enough for me.

But who wouldn't rather have the 128GB iPad?

I have to live within a budget.

I wouldn’t go older than air 2 (battery) with pro 10.5 being the sweet spot with its 6gb of ram. It is actually a very capable device and really only a couple of years old. I use it interchangeably with my pro 11 2020 and there’s no difference other that 256 vs 512 latency buffer.

I have a 2017 iPad Pro 10.5", which I think is the only Pro 10.5" model ever made. It has 4GB of RAM, which can be confirmed in any review or spec site, or at Wikipedia, here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPad_Pro_(2nd_generation)

I believe it wasn't until 2018 iPad Pro that 6GB RAM was made available. And even then the regular 2018 iPad Pro was 4GB; 6GB was only in the model that also had 1TB of internal storage.
