AUM and Audiobus

So I've started experimenting with using Audiobus to host synths/sequencers I want quick access to (via Audiobus remote), and AUM for everything else (controlled using MIDI externally).

I have a couple of questions:
1) Is there a CPU hit for this? I like the flexibility, but not sure I want to pay the price if there is.
2) Anyone have an easy way to add a audiobus synth to an existing AUM bus?

Currently when I add something in Audiobus to AUM, it creates a new bus (which I have to delete), and then I have to go and manually add it to the right bus. What I'd like to be able to do is manually edit it myself, and if I change the synth at the top of an Audiobus channel, for AUM to just automatically pull that in (so I could have a Pad Audiobus channel - which AUM reads - and then in Audiobus I could switch between synths). Is this possible?

This is what I do, it's a fantastic workflow.

I'm sure there is, but it's never been apparent that it's a major hit. E.g. sometimes I've started mucking around in AUM and then add in Audiobus after the fact (moving IAA synths and other things I want to control to AB) and it's never been a noticeable performance hit when I do.

You can turn off the "Auto-add Sources" for Audiobus in AUM's Settings. This will prevent new AUM channels from forming whenever you route something to AUM in Audiobus.

Unlike AUM, AB doesn't have fixed outputs that you can pre-assign to AUM, you have to create a channel with something in it before you can establish a routing to AUM.

However, once you've made a routing from AB to AUM that connection is persistent. So if you set that AB output to the correct channel in AUM it will remain even if you change the synths in AB.

Oh good. So far I've sunk quite a bit of time into it, and it's good to hear that I'm right about this. I LOVE using my phone for switching apps.

Good. I couldn't see why there would be, but wanted to check and see if anyone else had experienced issues.

    Yes! Thank you!

Hmm, when I change synths they seem to be disconnected from AUM. I'll try again and see if I was doing something stupid. Maybe the auto-add was interfering with it.

Thanks for your help - I feel I'm super close to my perfect live workflow here.

Switching is great, but I really love the simple remote control you get with IAA apps that added in AB Remote hooks. E.g. being able to switch patterns in Elastic Drums or Patterning.

As long as you're only swapping the synth, it should be persistent - just checked and it's working fine for me.

In fact, even removing the output to AUM in AB I was able to get it reassigned. You can't specify output numbers in AB when you're selecting AUM, but it will start with the lowest number output available. This means you could rearrange which AUM channels you want to send to by removing the outputs in AB and adding them back in the new order.

Thanks for your help - I feel I'm super close to my perfect live workflow here.

    You're welcome!
