sequencers designed for long pads - change over time
long title cuz i need a long sequence 🤣
i feel like we are getting a lot of sequencers right now that are limited to short bars / steps.
this is great for leads/arps/bass and allows you to to get funky fast but what about loooooong 300 step drones and pads??
something with options to change the pitch / other stuff up and down over time with one long note , not just a basic piano rool editor...
maybe some will say fugue machine / atom/ and the like are good for this but theydon’t let you change patterns or have a song mode they are more like one shot sequences...
i like digikeys a lot but that’s def lacking for any lengthy patterns...
i just got cykle but haven’t opened it yet, maybe it’ll do this? but i don’t think you can arrange patterns into songs with it...
that’sa big feature i am looking for ^^ stringing all my parts together and making some parameter adjustments

Hrmmm...modstep would give you 16 steps x 16 bars x n# Clips. You could even drop the speed of an individual Bar by 1/4 speed, feed the sequence it AUM with Mozaic picking it up and randomizing it before sending it along to your synth.
Magic i tell ya.
Stepbud has its own rate. Infinate steps. Probabilty. Rachets, scenes etc
why not a piano roll editor? As long as it has automation, I don’t see what else is needed. There’s no good AU piano roll for this, but Xequence 2 is great for that kind of stuff even though it’s not AU.
For long pads, nothing beats LayR...the sequencer is cool but it is the ultra-scalable envelopes (for very long and/or delayed envelopes) and the possibility of many many independent oscillators and envelopes. Check out the videos on YOuTube. There's nothing like it.
Listen to this man. He speaks words of wisdom.
And of course Cubasis will suit your needs as well, if you have it. Patterns and sequences as long and slow as you want plus automation.
i am still struggling with the editing on xequence, i have the original version and i want to use it more but i end up getting frustrated as i haven’t really taken the time to learn how to harness its power lol totally on me as i know it is a beast once you get good with it...

for example i just fired up a little session to try to figure it out more and i’m already stuck 🤣
i’ve tried to double tap on the notes, use the pencil, try to select just this patch of notes ...all that and cannot figure out how to just quickly, or even slowly, delete single notes 🤷🏻♂️ i have been using sequencers for a long time but i am stumped and i’m sure it’s easy but my mind is failing lol
but i want these notes outta here!!! asap
i’ve tried to love modstep but haven’t got there yet, ive seen what you do with it and i’m like dang it it’sso good!!! haha
oh i have that!! i used it heavy when it released, good time to get back into it
i love layer! it creates great pads... the problem for me is not the actual instrument but just sequencing... with a multi track sequencer ... i’m gonna keep at xequence for a while and hopefully digikeys will up the length game soon and by then i’ll be a master of xequence and dk!
also i keep seeing “ ghost notes” that are lighter than the others in the background and i have no idea what that means
@wim fyi i just re posted these questions in a random xequence thread
Different velocities.
@reasOne Just draw one long clip in a Nanostudio 2 AU instrument track, add a 111 bars long clip, double-tap it and add a few 111 bars long notes, then edit them and see if you get along with it.
Edit: Xequence does have most of the editing tools, it just handles a few things somewhat differently 😉
Hmmm maybe a synth with an ultra long Legato style effect. Mono synth with legato raised up to the max?!? Maybe something like this?
haha that’sa good idea actually, i don’t use ns2 often but def is a solution and great option
NS2 and X2 piano rolls are pretty similar. @rs2000 pointed out in another thread that when you turn off grid quantize in the X2 piano roll, you lose the visibility of the grid. It's a good point, and I think will be addressed in X2 at some point. Then there's the tempo / time signature support in NS2. If that's important, then X2 isn't the right option at this stage of the game.
Both are amazing.
@reasOne
Select the notes and press the x delete button in the bottom middle of the interface.
You can long press lasso notes, and tap select/deselect notes. Use the handles on the right side and the inside handles on the bottom to move selections. The outside arrows lengthen or shorten the duration of the notes selected.
You can also use the pencil to draw notes and tap add/delete them as well as existing notes.
Hope that helps
thanks guys i was able to figure out delete thanks to abforum 😀 also figured out how easy it is to route and record midi fx from aum!
