New app Mutant from Mazetools Coming Soon!
Hey, the @mazetools guys, the devs of Soniface... have a new app that they say is going to drop this month. It’s universal, no connectivity yet, but you can record and export your audio recording out.
There are mostly baked in sounds but you can do a fair bit to manipulate them to make them your own. You can sort of play it too. It’s really fun and kinda game like.
They say more features to create sounds are coming.
I personally love Soniface, but I get the interface may be too strange and unconventional for some.
Mutant is much easier to figure out. I understood pretty much everything after a couple plays without any demo videos or a manual. Super easy and a lot of fun. ![]()
(Edit: this isn’t a promo demo video. I made it with the beta. I’ve only had it a short while so haven’t made anything stellar yet
but I can attest to how easy it is to figure out from personal experience)

The lack of connectivity is a deal breaker for me. I really like Soniface but it is so much of a frustration not to be able to integrate it in my setting...I will pass on this one (that sounds very interesting) because it will be the same frustration
I figure that’ll be the story from several here. I won’t be skipping it. It’s too much fun to play with. And I can use it to make interesting pieces that I can export out and play with in other apps.
To each their own though!
Looks like a mix of starship navigation and 80s mainframe hacking. I’m in.
This isn't a game man.
Looks interesting but no connectivity = look no further for me.
It sounds quite similar to Soniface, is it much different? And does it have Link?
The lack of Link (so far) with soniface makes me use it less than I want to. But I’m hoping they’ll figure out how to add it sometime
I thought it was going to basically be a stripped down Soniface with everything baked in, and made more to just play around with.
In some ways this is true, but it's easier to play with. There does seem to be lots of ways to alter the sound and they say they're adding more.
To be honest, I wasn't that interested at first... but after playing with it, I think I'll continue to. It's fun to just screw around in... sometimes it starts getting good, other times it's a chaotic mess. It'll be fun for glitchy drum stuff I think.
For those wanting all the connectivity, link, AUv3, IAA, etc. And those who like to have a root granular control of everything... this probably won't be for you... at least not the version that's about to release.
I was going to mostly dismiss it... but if the price was low I was going to maybe support the devs and get it more as a sound toy.
And, it is somewhat of a "toy" but for me... a really fun toy that I can record and export out.
It's definitely not going to be for many of the old-school regulars on this forum... the ones that make lots of requests for more control and demands for more connectivity, etc. But, for those of you who (like me) just like to screw around and have a little fun with sound every now and then... and ALSO be able to export out an audio file when you stumble on something interesting and unique, I can recommend.
Yeah I like what they do, will most probably get it at some point
. I’m not so bothered about inter app connectivity with their stuff but Link would be enough to make it really useful.
Looks weird, which gets a big tick from me. I like the vid, so if it’s cheap enough I’ll grab it as an interesting noise source and record the audio out onto desktop.
After you select an instrument... the little green dot means it's constantly recording automation. You just start right in and it loops whatever movement you make... then you can continue automating... or add another instrument... or add effects, filters, etc. for each instrument separately... and those movements are automated too.
At the bottom there's a record button where you can record the audio and then export out to AudioShare or Files, if you want to. No need to record onto desktop if you don't want to.
looks like fun and sounds very useable
Even better.
Look forward to this one, I’ve bought lots of sensible stuff recently, it’s time for something a bit more random.
