Equivalent of sound flower on ios?

Is there any equivalent of soundflower on ios? Ie. Something that allows you to record any iPad audio output directly in the iPad itself?

I'm not aware of any technical method of getting access to internal audio streams. I don't think Apple allows it (probably to make it harder to tap into licensed streaming content).

  • If you drag from the right top corner of the Ipad, this reveals the control center menu. If you click the icon that looks like a target this will screen capture. This will record both screen and sound though then you could separate the audio with another app. There are app that will capture and record audio coming out but all to my knowledge do the same thing. The using the above method you do not have loose either your privacy rights or be infested with ads or app nags.

  • Thanks guys, @Toastedghost that sounds like quite a clever workaround, nice one!

  • I sampled Spotify using the method @Toastedghost described and it worked really well, trimmed in AudioShare. To get the audio from video, I use Shortcuts, which is free and included in iOS13.

Here is a shortcut to do that: https://routinehub.co/shortcut/1853

In Settings, under Shortcuts, you need to toggle on Allow Untrusted Shortcuts. If you are hesitant to use one from an unknown person, you can easily make your own.

  • Very nice indeed, thank you.

Screen capture will not record "protected" audio or video. E.g. content from iTunes, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, etc.

However, some things that you would think would be protected (E.g. Amazon Prime Music, YouTube, Spotify [apparently]) aren't... so YMMV

  • My Father who ran the last Independent Cinema in Bradford and bought one of the worlds first reel to reel tape recorders said this will be the end to copyright. In some respects he was right. Nearly all copyright can be circumnavigated to one extent or another. If people are recording for their own use.

Some people Jailbreak their Ipads and get their apps for free, though I would never risk it.
We now have an app we can use inside AUM to record Youtube performances and then resample and make our own.

Just tried the short cut from your download, it asks for a name.. then crashes saying it can't convert text to audio, I deleted that part of the short cut, it seems to finish, but I can't ever find the file,
    Any help please
As this seems like it could be a great short cut
    Any help please

Don’t know what impact copy protection might have, but since I was turned onto this by someone else on this forum, I use the following method to capture audio from old but interesting non AU//IAA apps: open app. Open screen recorder. Use app. Close screen recorder. Go to Photos (where your video clip will be) share video to Files. Open AudioShare. Open video in AudioShare. Use AudioShare Convert function to resave the clip as .wav. Edit to taste. Delete original video clip. Job done.

@aplourde I think it depends of it is DRM-protected streaming, such as Netflix and Amazon. > @Nicebutfun said:

This is my personal shortcut, I’ve just tested it. It lets you trim after selecting (I wouldn’t worry about being exact, it’s more for trimming off minutes) and then save as m4a or aiff.

I usually choose pick from camera roll.

Thanks young man, tried the same clip with your cloud version and it worked straight away, and with a few more options,
Many thanks..... This is gonna be useful

  • @Nicebutfun Glad to help! Shortcuts can be very powerful, though a steep learning curve. Basic stuff is easy but it gets very complex very quickly.

  • Thanks, yes your one works for me with a screen recording where the other didn’t. Nice one!

  • So now using this shortcut...and 'lets unmix' app, what I wanted to do last night didn't take long to at all.. good 24hrs for me
    Thanks
