Is there any equivalent for Output by Arcade on iOS? (Review)
Solution: Try Egoist, or Effectrix + Reslice.
I've been getting random ads for Output and I eventually caved in and got the trial. Here are my thoughts as an iOS user:
- Cool design. Interesting concept for the white keys to play samples and the black keys to be used for effects. I wonder if I can make a Mozaic script for this...
- Each sample can be further customized. Hmmm... Also, I can import samples.
- Hang on, these effects are pretty basic. Stutter, reverse, etc. If I use Effectrix, (or even Egoist -wish I got that on sale last year), I can accomplish the same or even more.
- Wait a minute...this is a ROMPLER?And I never get the software. It's a perpetual $10 subscription.
- These are all just loops that are downloaded on my computer in an .OLAC format. Can I extract them?
- Hmm...can't extract them. I can load the file, but it seems proprietary, and I can't find a converter.
- Can I sample them? Is that even legal? (Answer: I can sample, but it's not legal)
- Nanostudio 2 may actually be quite similar to this, if I can get the sounds. Hmmm....there are some legalities involved in sampling the loop. Better make a forum on Audiobus titled, "Is there any equivalent for Output by Arcade on iOS?"
So here we are.
For an iPad, I think I can accomplish the same effect as Output with Synthjacker (to make it easy to trim my samples), Nanostudio 2 (to play the samples, and further customize), Effectrix/Turnado/Egoist (for the effects), and Mozaic for that very interesting concept of using the black keys to trigger effects.
I could also use Beatmaker 3 instead of SynthJacker+ Nanostudio 2, but I'm not sure of performance.
For an iPhone,
Nanostudio 2 + Synthjacker + Mozaic + (a multi effect like FAC Bandit)
Sadly, I dont have Cubasis, so I can't add to the list.
Comments
I would think in Beatmaker, if you map different samples to different keys, then map Effectrix (MIDI version) to keys in another octave (or the black keys), you could do this. I would think turning off the pitch envelope would make it easier.
Problem I have with Beatmaker is that if I decide to open up a different app like Garageband, it just shuts down. Sometimes I can get back what I was working on, but yesterday wasn't one of those days.
I haven't played around with MIDI Effectrix enough. Man, there's a lot of things to learn in each app. It's almost like a lecture course.
@Samflash3 if you have Effectrix MIDI loaded on a bank, it will accept pattern changes with the keyboard.
I have not had a problem with BM3 after switching to other apps, I switch apps a lot. In GarageBand, do you have Use With Music Apps toggled on in the settings?
The only problem I have had with BM3 is crashing--usually when opening the list of Audio Units, but also with trying to make complex automation. So I basically save before I make any major changes and every few minutes.
Anyway, Effectrix MIDI uses C3-C4 as the pattern switchers. And the default pads to sample start at C3, so you probably would want to move your patterns to C2 or maybe even lower.
I believe you gave me a better idea for my Akai MPK Mini... Using the pads to control Effectrix on the master bus.
How?
Here you go:

Hard work and focus
Here is a video i made about it a while ago for both bM3 and sEGments

Nice!
Here's Part 1:

Thanks for sharing this. If you gave the free MPC Beats app from Akai, you can use it's AutoSampler function to do the same thing.
Hrmmm...might be worth paying for 1 month of service to create a big library
Isn't first month free?
I think you only get a few libraries with Free.
Awesome work, thank you sir!
No worries guys. Glad to help anytime
