Best current audio unit for playing professional sampled instruments
Was just browsing through the forum, it seemed that about a year ago Audiolayer was considered the best choice for this, is that still the case? I’m not very happy with the bass sounds I am getting from synths in particular, I think I’d prefer samples. I have BASSalicious which is pretty good, but am hoping I can get something better, particularly for electric and acoustic bass sounds. Any advice folks?

I use bs16i for all the 'bread and butter' sounds I can't achieve with a synth. It has a decent general MIDI set included, but also supports SoundFonts. The AUv3 plugin only has one instrument per instance while the standalone app is 16 part multitimbral.
Still AudioLayer.
Do you have BASSalicious 2?
I believe Audiolayer is still at a discounted price... $17.99 instead of $29.99
Thanks guys. I have bassalicious 2, yes, it is good but the acoustic bass sounds there aren't quite doing it for me. I've mostly been sticking to mpe synths as I like the expressiveness possible, but am frustrated with the lack of the great Audio Modeling sounds in Auv3. Time to give audiolayer a crack I think, thank you! What is the advantage of audiolayer vs bs16i, or vice versa?
The biggest advantage in AudioLayer is that you can create your own instruments inside it and that it supports disk streaming which means that sample size is almost unlimited. You won't be able to build or use a 2GB piano in bs16i, AL can do it.
I got Al in the end and am LOVING it so far, thnx for the tips guys.
It's the best on iOS, for sure. Enjoy!
Having real acoustic sounds from an app like this + putting them into an app like spacecraft and mangling the shit out of them but still having that acoustic tone somewhere in the background = heaven!
Just an FYI: A quick update was made for BASSAlicious 2 in which we added velocity switching and zones to the Control Section. So now you can make multi-velocity acoustic and electric bass sounds along with crossfading between zones.
Thanks Jamal, I’ll check that out, nice one
