For all photography lovers: get Aurora HDR 2018 for free (usually about $90 or so) - https://skylum.com/l/dc-aurora
It's not the latest version but still pretty good

This is a DESKTOP app. Be advised that the free product requires an email exchange to join their database stats and get future marketing. When you install the app a pop-up appears that says "Do you authorize this app to get keystrokes from other applications?".

I little research reveals that this pop-up is needed to allow "shortcuts" to function on OS X.
But it has probably killed the revenue for the product due to security concerns about key logging exposure. If you say "Yes" you are by definition more vulnerable. Go figure.

Anyway, I said no. Install the free app and tried it on a photo. It's got a UI like Photoshop... very detailed and complex. It's a Pro Photographer's tool. So, best be ready for that.

Does anything on IOS have similar HDR benefits? I think the new cameras on iPhone/iPads have this feature. It's one of those computer tricks that defy the capabilities of optics. "You won't believe what you are seeing."

  • Syntronik on sale is worth it for sure. It’s sample based, but it just sounds good straight out the box.
I ended up buying it on sale for desktop as well.
I’m Waiting on a good sale on the new Organ VST
Their newer software products have been good for me ( but always wait for the sales)

OT: Ableton is 30 percent off all month... might upgrade standard to suite, but I’ve already spent a grip.

  • +1 Syntronik. Really good clarity.

whats the difference between the regular and CS app?

whats the difference between the regular and CS app?

IK Multimedia often adds "CS" to apps... which used to mean "Custom Shop" which probably started as a Store for extra sound sets.

In this case on IOS it denotes a "light" version to try the app and later upgrade to the full product. Syntronik CS is usually free and only has a few sounds. I usually end up with both on my devices and upgrade in one or both using the IAP "store" and skipping that dreaded
    IK Multimedia data harvesting engine.

Once you buy an app in iTunes the pricing is never disclosed again but it's implied when calculating some bundles. But the database of IAP sales seem to be Apple's property now
so marketing to the IAP base vs the non-IAP bases seems to be difficult. Moving IAP users over to new apps with pricing benefits seems to be impossible.

So, CS in this sense means you get the free harness to purchase "Custom Shop" upgrades.
Those IAP products are also available for the Syntronik buyers that get more for the purchase and are still marketed to and I just went the whole bundle route because the other path gets really crazy the you add it all up.

Does it bother anyone else that after buying enough apps there's no icon ever displayed on your IOS home screens so it's hard to delete an installed app? I just switched to delete most recently used. I tried deleting visible apps to see if I could ever get back to seeing what's really installed but decided it wasn't much better. How do you prune your IOS storage for efficiency? If I use folders better can I get hold more app icons?

  • Well...I admit I haven’t played with Syntronik in a long time and the feedback from @nick, @gusgranite, @Gravitas , @BCKeys, @ruggedsmooth and @LinearLineman made me go back and play with it.

It does sound very good. I’m not that much of a synth tweaker that the sample based format & lack of deep editing is that big of a deal.

Question: What’s the difference between the upgrade versions? I get the Deluxe upgrade is everything included but what does the standard upgrade contain? And I checked the in-app store and the Deluxe is down to $49.99 but the standard upgrade says it’s $39.99...I thought it was going to be $12.99? I’m on Syntronik, not Syntronik CS. I believe I got it when it came out for free...

Yes, if you utilise folders, your device will be able to hold more app icons. You just won’t be able to see them all immediately, as folders can hold pages of apps themselves. I have some of mine grouped by developer, I’ve noticed others on here will group by instrument type or purpose. Whatever classification/ease of location strategy works for you! 🙂

    Now, any more sales?

  • thank you @McD ! i’m probably going to grab some of these iaps

  • I imagine using something like Syntronic might involve less processor load than an actual synth. But then I think, well it's only the oscillator that's not being modelled, there's still filters etc, so maybe not much of a difference. Any opinions?

It’s pretty hungry IMO. Similar to the more resource intensive synths.

  • Another Syntronik fan.

When people dismiss it because it uses samples, they should realize that it is the oscillator waveforms that are sampled, not the whole sound of the synth like you would get using something like SynthJacker and a sampler.
This is more like using wave cycles and wave tables. If I understand it correctly, this is the same technique used by SynthMaster and Pure Synth. Yet, I rarely see those dismissed for using samples.

All 3 of these synth apps sound extremely good, and are among the top quality apps on iOS.

    Yep, it’s dope !

Im not a synth tweaker too. I like Magellan2, I can obtain easily what I want with a little patience (and luck sometimes!) but I admit that I’m more & more attached to the simplicity of Syntronik’s tweakability.
Large panel of sounds, wide fx section, filters, its million possibilities to find the sound I want.

Actually, the standard upgrade contains 17 synths and deluxe contains 22 synths (you can see the 17 synth list detailed on your screenshot).

    Deluxe contains : M-Poly, Memory-V, Modulum, SH-V and VCF3

I think the $12.99 is maybe just a mistake on their website 👀

Edit : oh no, wait, maybe $12.99 is the price for an update from standard version to deluxe version ?

Well if I'm eating popcorn & water and the end of the month I'm blaming @BCKeys @gusgranite etc...

I bought the deluxe version, if it really doesn't do it for me I'll try to refund it but with just 15 minutes with it I am really impressed.

I'm embarrassed to say but I didn't know there was a skeuomorphic control panel for each synth! Everytime I loaded it up it defaults to that voice browser and there's pictures of the different synths on the side ala' GarageBand. It being samples I figured you just pick a voice and that's it!

Damn man, it's a totally different app now. There's ADRS & other controls that mimic the hardware versions...wow. Well I screwed the pooch on this thing for awhile...

Yeah from what I remember the Syntronik version I had before buying this upgrade wasn't free, so maybe the 12.99 is for that? I dunno, I went for the 22 synths deluxe...if you're going to blow money might as well swallow too...or something...

  • Looks like the sale is over at least in the US App Store. Bummer, read posts about Syntronik and listened to samples of it all afternoon only to find the prices had returned to normal.

interesting! i didn’t know that. i was personally not hating on it for using samples cuz i don’t care, samples have their place, but this makes syntronik way more attractive

Yeah, it seems there is this wrong impression about this app that never goes away.
I think it is a misunderstanding about the term ‘sampling’.
I mean, I think these apps are technically ‘ROMplers’ , but they are way better than the old ROMplers that were built with super crappy sampling limitations.

I do see this also. Per the IK Multimedia announcement on their web site, the sale was to go through June 02. I still do see Sampletank IAPs on sale.
@ikmultimedia - can you confirm whether the Syntronik IAP sale should extend through June 02, not May 02?

  • ya no sale prices on my end :( bummah!

I'm absolutely guilty of misjudging Syntronik big time. To be honest, it was more to do with my experiences with @ikmultimedia's Amplitube.
Now I think Fender Collection 2 is stellar, but there's several amp models that just sound like the archetypical "bad amp sim".

So I know when I saw Syntronik I thought "Oh, it's Amplitube for keyboards..." and REALLY tuned out when I heard "samples". I was a complete duncecap because this thing is incredible.

I was just playing this Oberheim styled patch through an arpeggiator just with the onboard effects and it had me swimming in goosebumps.

I've said it before that I am a guitarist/bassist/songwriter even drummer way before a keyboardist. I've adapted & learned to get into messing with oscillators & filters from scratch to make sounds but I do like a well prepared preset. These presets are unreal.

The other synth that I had this feeling with is the TAL-UN-O-LX Juno clone. Same type of authenticity...glad I jumped in on the sale.

  • for a different opinion: I was not impressed at all with Syntronik. Pretty cpu hungry, Great for fairly vanilla/generic synth presets, but that's about it. I don't agree that it's much more than a rompler. you're stuck with the timbres that somebody else decided were "good". The interface is clunky (more emphasis on cheesy, distressed skeumorphism than on a good UX) and unnecessarily difficult to set up multis and splits with. Imo, few of the synths really captured the essence of the synths that they were pretending to be. The limitations were far too constricting for my own needs in a software instrument. again, if you love presets that sound like a million other things, then you will likely love these. If you want the potential to find your own sounds, probably not.

ended up getting deleted in the last sweep of apps that left me disappointed. Wish I'd put the money toward the hammond app, which actually does sound pretty incredible.

Syntronik give at least a plethora of possibilities.

organ enthusiasts. I'm an organ enthusiast. I agree it's quite steep.

as a synth enthusiast, Syntronik didn't do it for me.
