Donating mobile interfaces for musicians online gigs
Hi, I am working with a foundation in my city to support musicians out of work due to gig cancellations. One thing I would like to do is to get some local musicians iPhone-friendly 2-input audio interfaces so they can improve the quality of their live streams from home.
What is the lowest-cost but still user friendly option? The Behringer UMC22 or UM2 looks like it would allow a mic and a guitar at the same time, and I could afford to buy a number of them. Do these models work when directly plugged into an iPhone?
Comments
I see this comment indicating not a class compliant USB device
Check out the Zoom U-22
Choice of streaming method/platform will have a big impact on audio quality.
Almost all interfaces will need the official Apple adapter which isn’t cheap.
Great initiative, just some potential pitfalls worth considering.
Good luck!
they are class compliant but need the original apple camera adapter

I’m a big fan of the Scarlett Focusrite 2i2 interface (as well as their higher input options too).

May not be quite as inexpensive as some options but I’ve never had a problem with any of them and I’ve owned a bunch.
I personally love the Focusrite and I might have one to donate.
The old iTrack dock works nicely for lightning.
I have a Behringer UCA202 cost me about £15 from Amazon. Used with my ipad Air2 and I love it. The bloody ipad lightening to usb cost twice as much have the interface. Apple coils it in , but hey ho it is a simple and light weight solution. I have a Roland Quad Capture which is great for the Mac but unfortunately not compliant with IOS.
Has anyone tried the lightning to USB B type cable? That might reduce the need for the lightning.
