I'm glad to see people trying disruptive new things to see if the iOS landscape, which is so lackluster for developers can be shaken out of its malaise. If no one tries new things, nothing new happens.

Good on you for thinking outside the box. I hope it works / does something positive! <3

@analog_matt after reading your explanation, I totally agree. Best of lucks. :)

Is this synth based on actual synthesis or is it another rompler with >1GB of samples?

Synth, this app is < 20mb total

Goodie, in that case it will still fit on my iPad since I've yet to get a new one :D

Is there 'drum app' around the corner with AUv3 multi-out?
Like a 'Linn Drum 2020' or something like that?

A SH-101 clone with sequencer and all would spark my interest for sure...

  • Sure... but will it Reese? :)

  • Does this work on iPhone?

  • sounds exciting! good to see some LE apps! it’ll be a bummer to those who don’t know about it but hey, i know about it so i’m good 🤣🤣🤣

There are multiple drum apps in the works. Including a Free Drum Machine coming on 08/08/2020.
We're also working with Roger Linn on a cool free update to an existing AK app. It's coming next week.

    What a tease :D
    Drum sounds?

    08/08 is kinda given, a TR-808 clone...?

  • Great apps and even plug-ins are born because of AudioKit but this sounds almost as the opposite as how it started with "music for all". Sounds more like kind of artificial shortage. Not sure if i like it this way. But what do i know.
    Just my voice.

  • Thanks everyone for the positive comments! 🙏

Honestly, with the current state of the world, it has been challenging for me. There has been an increase in mean & rude emails to myself and other developers on the team the past couple of weeks. Like some of you, I have immediate family members in the hospital. And, it's hard to stay motivated when people yell at you and send rude emails about free music apps like Synth One. And, some of our app sales have slowed down to only a few dollars a day.

I know it's because people are hurting. And, I'm trying to stay positive and compassionate. Please take care of yourselves, your family, and fellow musicians. I plan on continuing to work on all these new and existing apps during the pandemic. Hopefully, some of these apps can bring added joy and creativity. And, we'll all get through this together. 🖤

The apps will still be updated. In fact for this one, we're planning an iPhone version. Which will be a free update. The catch is, you won't actually be able to buy it on an iPhone. So, not many people will have the iPhone version. Making it a more exclusive instrument.

What happens if you get a new phone/iPad?
You can still download the app as long as you have the same iTunes account.

Hope you all stay positive and healthy,
    – Matthew

  • Awesome @analog_matt with that low price point, and updates, I think it’s a very interesting concept that will work. Especially if you spread the word far and wide about each apps “lifespan” or deadline date and time, so everyone in this forum, and into iOS music making gets a chance to purchase, which I’m sure you will do. I cant wait to try each one of the Apps over next few years. Something to look forward to every month or so. Congratulations on the new app!

If they still get updates and they aren’t too pricey, this could work...

Oh yes, this first one is only $2.99
It's really great for creating kick and electronic drums, too. Not just bass.

We worked with Jeff Cooper, who studied FM Synthesis under John Chowning (one of the creators of the DX7) himself at Stanford. His 808 kick bass models he created for this app are some of the best and deepest synthesized kicks I've heard on any platform. Really exciting low-end.

    Sad to hear, sorry.
Maybe if it helps you it might be worth a try but also expect more "angry" mails then as well.
But it seems form what i hear from some developers iOS often works with a great sale at start and then the curve goes down really fast, so the opposite of this Corona thing. When people know it is just available for a shorter time the curve at start could be bigger and so it could bring more income.
But again i have no clue of course but i guess the market is very dynamic and i wish you all the best.
(OT - i just saw that Unify from pluginguru also has something to do with AudioKit? I love this tools and something like this is needed for iOS!!)

@analog_matt : There's an additional reason why it's sometimes smart to limit the availability of an app like this; it limits the amount of support requests. That can be a big factor for a small team.

  • Ummm ... @analog_matt , a scary thought just occurred to me. I've read postings that say when an app is refunded, the developer is on the hook for the whole purchase price even though they only received 70% of the purchase price from Apple. If this is true and someone bought the app at $999, you could be out $300 if they refunded it.

Those postings have never seemed totally conclusive (i.e. never heard a developer say they actually got dinged by Apple for this), but they've never been conclusively refuted either.

It might be worth checking into.

  • Like anything... there’s Pro’s and Cons. I guess time will tell, but I am excited and interested to see what they come out with.

You know, I've been thinking about this all afternoon. With everything going on, there's a lot of normal things that we can't have, and I don't want this to be one more thing.

If the universal version doesn't come out during the drop, we'll make a special opportunity in the future to allow iPhone users the chance to have this one.

For everyone reading, you're the heartbeat of the iOS community.
You will be included & know about these drops. If you're reading this, you're in on it.

  • Here's a demo of some of Sound of Izrael's patches

  • It seems I have been voted off the island.

  • I appreciate the thoughtful passion baked into every Audiokit app - and so when I hear the new project is steeped in both tradition and novelty? Well friends, they've earned enough credit in my bank for my patient excitement.

  • Anybody dissin Audiokit team needs to check their head...

Nothing but love from me for what they do!

  • Whats the CPU usage like ?
Could be nice for bass source for Reeses.

@ExAsperis99 Sorry about that voting thing, but we found a nice new boy.

  • I would like a nice 808 kick synth...

  • Sounds like a good idea, looking forward to seeing what’s on the menu.

2 weeks is plenty of time to skip a large coffee and support this great initiative instead.

It’s not uncommon for artists to do limited prints/coloured vinyl etc

Hopefully some people will pay the inflated price!
