Can this be routed now to send midi to auv3s in AUM?

I’d like to know this too.
Is there another App that has similar functionality?
I recall reading about it but I can’t find the topic via search.

    Musikraken maybe?

This app needs to be the foreground app to work (due to OS limitation on communication with game controllers). What do you mean about whether it can send to AUv3? it isn't a host. Apps can't send directly to AUv3 in another app. They have to send to a host.

    Yeah that’s the one, thanks.

Ouch that’s unfortunate news I wonder if Musikraken will also need to be in the foreground to do its thing.

I believe the issue is particular to game controllers (not the apps) and Bluetooth keyboards…as normally those need to apply to the frontmost app…if you switch between games…you want the controller applying to the game.

It isn’t that an app needs to be frontmost to send/receive midi…it is that miditrol needs to be in front to receive the data from the game controllers.

  • Cool thanks for the info.
    And yep…
Musikraken seems to have the same restrictions according to the forum post.

If the restriction wasn't there, an app in the background could record your interaction with any other app that is in the foreground. And as the same framework that supports game controllers also supports external keyboards, this would be quite problematic, I guess...

Hmm, at least I'm able to map my BT game controller to controls inside Drambo and I can host, control and mix all my AUv3s there as well.

  • These security limitations can be a default setting but optionally should be a user choice. its the same nonsense with limiting audio and video capture from copyrighted sources. Because you can always do a ios screencapture with video and audio and save this locally. Then process it in any other app or plugin as a media file. its the same crap as how vhs would destroy the movie industry or radio and cassettes destroying the music industry. iOS needs the same privacy settings for screen recording etc as OSX has. Now that would be a usefull iOS 16 feature Apple.
