I never once verbally abused in any conversation .... I merely stated my contempt for unwanted advice !

This is as bad as me getting kicked out of my local surgery for refusing to see one of the practice doctors ,
The guy was a complete muppet when dealing with my kids ...I asked the receptionist if I could see someone else , when she asked why I said I thought he was a muppet ..... she changed my appointment and I thought nothing more of it until a letter telling me I had been struck off the practice arrived a couple days later !....

My real issue with the word « snowflake » is that it’s become such a cliché. When someone uses it I feel that person lacks the spirit of invention and creativity, and is using language in a very dull way. (But then again, maybe I’m just a snowflake myself.)

Weirdly in ‘real life’ I’m quite a glass half full type of person, who enjoys nothing more than a laugh with his mates. Probably doesn’t translate here, but then we’re usually debating something or discussing an app’s shortcomings, without the luxury of a pub table full of beer.

The issue I have here, as before, is when someone jumps into a thread, not to add something to the debate, but to hurl a personal insult into the mix. I won’t repeat the one from a week ago, but last year for example I was called an ‘autistic moron’, amongst other things. It was probably a debate about pricing, I think I payed £40 for an app that was then reduced to a tenner a few days later, or free, or something. But anyway, that person was not part of the discussion, hadn’t posted for two months, and just came in to stir up trouble.

Now. If a bloke walked up to our pub table and did that, there would have to be a response of some kind. But if you do that online, it spirals the thread into chaos. Which is what always happens, but is unsightly and ruins the original discussion.

The solution: moderation. Jump on that sort of comment straight away, and then the person who’s just been attacked doesn’t feel the need to defend, or respond to it themselves.

This stuff about 'snowflakes', the 'easily offended' who should 'man up'? Bullshit, that's just an excuse to be offensive and get away with it, and blame any radverse eaction on the person who's just been insulted.

Bullying, basically. And if it isn't tackled, will get a crotchety response.

Regardless of how you may feel about his response, mine or anyone’s, I think the point being made is quite simple;

There are ways to tell someone how you feel without inviting conflict. You could point out that they are being impolite, boorish, uncouth, petulant, churlish or blatantly confrontational without resorting to lengthy diatribes or bandying about loaded terms like “snowflake”.

You may very well be the first person to use that word without I’ll intent, but if everyone who has used it before has intended to provoke, people will naturally assume that’s what you are trying to do when you use it.

TLDR: The best way to make your point without contention, on the forum and in real life, is to lead by example and treat others as you would like to be treated.

If some one tells me to but out or wind my neck in or whatever terminology they feel comfortable using or tells me they don’t give a fuck about my opinion then so be it ? I really don’t see the problem in expressing myself in as colourful a language I feel like using at the time 😁👍 it’s as someone else said “ blowing off steam” harmless when not nasty and usually taken as a bit of craic when done amongst friends 🤔 so .....
