Post Play Looper?
We know of any loopers (preferably midi and au)?
i.e. you play/jam live to a sync clock and then after playing, click loop (of how many bars) to set the loop of what has just been played.
like how Endless loops.

I think Loopy can do that. And I’ve maybe read that Kosmonaut can be set up to do it.
Loopy can't (@michael has said that he is adding it to the upcoming Loopy Pro). Kosmonaut can do it. You need to use MIDI to control the AU's length parameter to max out the retroactive time.
Ahhhhh the mythical creature known as a retroactive or backward looking looper...
There’s several threads here on how to build something like this for audio. There’s nothing for midi, except maybe Abletons midi capture thing.
As @espiegel123 says, Koz is going to be your best bet, but you’ll need to build an AUM session and have midi mapping to make it all work.
It’s a pain in the ass, and in my experience (and I’ve been hunting this fucking snipe for like 3 years) it doesn’t work how you wish it would...
I get it... yer jamming along, and you’ve lay down what sound like an awesome groove and you think to yourself, “shit, that was awesome ! I wish I had looped that!” So you start trying to find a mythical retroactive looper thinking, “surely I’m not the only one to have this epiphany! There must exist this beast!”
But there ain’t...
So you set out to build one using multiple delays that can be beat synced and go out to delay times like 8 or 16 measures... then you realize you need to add gates or mutes to various paths that all activate at the same time to avoid runaway feedback... Then you need envelopes to get rid of nasty clicks...
Then you realize that you don’t always know ahead of time how long your unborn killer riff will be... 4 bars? 4 beats? So you need a way to be able to change the length AFTER you record it...
Maybe you’ll catch this beast... maybe it never really existed after all?
🤪
Endlesss in solo mode, even though it's not AUv3 and doesn't do midi.
Flow Machine looper for the masses!
Seriously, your best bet is probably pressing the endlesss devs for better integration with the rest of the ios ecosystem..
Bingo...
Im not going to hold my breath though. As Tim has said, they only have one dev... and it seems they need/want this on Android and Androids real time audio sucks balls and is taking a lot of time to get to work... so I’d guess AU, stereo IAA, etc. that would “help” us is not coming any time soon.
But yea, the way endless does the looper is the closest to a perfect retroactive looper there is.
I pay $100 for just the looper if it was midi mappable, stereo, and an AU. ‘Cause nothing else is out there like it. And I’d pay $50 for iap to do midi that actually worked (looking crossly at you Infinite Looper...😤)
thx peeps..
Dreams are made of this....
Any updates on an iOS retrospective live jam looper/sequencer in the last and a half two years?
(endless but with midi and aum hosting)
Really lusting for this feature inside Drambo, so I can do that Octatrack thing of capturing loops live and mashing them up non-disruptively so I can crossfade different states, but with post loop capture (i.e. its always recording a few bars)

Loopy Pro
I'm not on the beta, so....
patience you must have my young padawan
It isn’t in beta. You can download it and use all features for a week. There are a few videos demonstrating its retrospective looping.
A couple of videos touching on Loopy Pro’s retrospective looper
Been out of beta stage for a while now. Lots of people love it but I wasn’t able to get on with it. Yet anyway.
Aye, but to be clear not midi looping. afaik.
No midi looping at this time.
Loopy Pro kind of does it but it’s not as simple/easy as it should be.
Drambo could do this really easily if the maestro made some tweaks to the buffer repeat module. It could even do the illusive reverse retrospective that is still missing from LP.
One day we’ll get there. MIDI retro looping? Hmm doesn’t really seem that complicated either to make but hey I am not a developer.
Retrospective recording and playback? Aha. That must be how this thread was achieved:
Just a lunchtime pondering - how difficult would it be to write a MIDI<->Audio encoder/decoder plugin pair? Would not be generally useful (perhaps why nobody has bothered!) and MIDI donuts are on the horizon but as a technical challenge I wonder what the roadblocks would be? Apparently standard MIDI uses 31250 bits/sec, which is well within typical audio bandwidth range.
Using this theoretical plugin, you could then use Loopy audio donuts to store and play back MIDI data. The encoder would act as an AU instrument and encode incoming MIDI to audio donuts and the decoder would act as an AU FX and decode the playing audio back to MIDI, same routing as something like MIDI Guitar 2 uses. Could miRack or Drambo do something like this?
